Senior Cats - Picture of the Month Contest

The theme for this month is: Senior Cats. We're looking for beautiful pictures of your beautiful kitties. The only thing we ask is that the cat in the picture was at least seven years old at the time the picture was taken.

When you post, please mention the cat's name and age View media item 138230
Submissions will be accepted through Wednesday, November 21st. Voting will follow for 3 days.

The Rules:

  1. Choose the best picture you have for our monthly theme and post it to this thread.
  2. Image needs to be clear and not too small. 480 pixels high by 640 pixels wide minimum should be a good enough size.
  3. One submission per member please
Our cats are ALL amazingly beautiful! This friendly photo contest is about the way in which the cat is captured in the picture. We're not looking for professional photography, but do try to keep things like image quality, lighting and composition in mind.

Good luck everyone!

Lucky - age 13.  I adopted him in June.  He was an offsite guest of the local animal shelter, being fostered by the pet store I work at.  I couldn't hold out anymore the second time he showed up in our foster cage.  Turns out he'd be in and out of the shelter system 4 times, and had just been returned after being adopted for a month because he "was too much work" since he had flea allergies and food sensitivities.  I treated him for fleas, got him on a good quality diet and he looks great.  He's a bit of a dominant sort, so he's not the best fit in my multicat household, I didn't know he wasn't too adaptable when I brought him home, but he's here to stay.  This is a furever home.   Top photo - he'd been here about two weeks, notice how firmly he has that paw on my leg claiming me and the "back off dude" look in his eye.  Bottom photo - day I brought him home sleeping on my bed.

This was Thai, a Siamesey-looking and -sounding cat that l got from a Rescue shelter.

At the time that l got him, the shelter said he was likely between 8 and 10 years old. He had a URI, and our

vet upon his first exam, guessed his age to be on the upper end of 10 to 12 years old. So we "set" his age

right in the middle at 10 years old. He was with us, and vibrant and healthy, until he was 18 (between 16 and 20).

ln the picture above, he was 17 (15 - 19).

Danny Boy...age 10.  Danny sits on the sofa watching Ellen on TV to relax after tending to the many abandoned foster kitties we've cared for until they get forever homes.  He cleans them, warms them, sleeps with them, helps toilet train them and gives them love. He's also the alpha member of our four wonderful boys.

I take it that one is the one you're submitting, right? I'll be deleting the other posts about the image embedding issues then :)

TONY

Tony is almost 12 years old, came to us from a local cat rescued facility when he was 5 mos. old, and is an unbelievably sweet, lovable little guy. He doesn't have a mean bone is his big 14 lb. body and absolutely adores his sisters Angel and Tippytoes.

Here is a picture of my darling Stumpy from about a year ago. He was just shy of 17 years old when I took this picture, which has him pushing 18 right now. The picture was posed - I tucked a newly made toy into his arms and he decided to strike a pose before he chomped on it.

This is Mihit Ethan Allan, aka Tyler..my first really sucessfull show kitty who earned a number of titles, and was shown extensively in several associations to help promote the then very new breed of American Curl.  Born in 1989, this was taken in 2002 when he was 13.  He loved soaking up the sun.  Miss you T-Ty.

I don't know if this qualifies b/c she has now passed, but this is my beautiful Gypsy taken about four months before she died at the age of 18.5 years, which was last year in August.  She was a little feral kitten when I found her in 1993, and she was a dear little thing with slightly stunted legs and a 3 cm long jump.  If I hadn't taken her in, she most likely would have starved to death, but instead she grew plump and as heavy as a small pumpkin.  I loved her ver much.

This is Holly, taken in August this year.  I am celebrating her 8th birthday tomorrow.  She was found in a wheelie bin on Boxing day 2004 and a friend knew I had room in my home for another cat, so she brought her to me.  I was delighted to discover last year that she is a Maine Coon.  But she doesn't care about that, she knows that she is perfectly beautiful whatever variety she is.
