Hi everyone! I was directed toward this website from a friend of mine that use to be a member; she mentioned you guys were a caring group and that you'd help in anyway you can so here i am!

My cat, Lilly, she's not doing the greatest! It had to have been friday that she started throwing up and would vomit up hair and liquids mostly. She stopped eating on saturday and I thought maybe it was just the food she grew to dislike...so I went and bought A LOT of different food and she STILL wouldn't eat. :( She hasn't drank anything either....Sunday she ate a little, but every time she'd eat...she'd throw up. Yesterday I called the doctor and he said to come by and get some bland food for her intestines and see what goes from there...She ate maybe not even a half can...i had to force feed her some of it. She puked three times..I woke up this morning, and she puked again and I couldn't do it, I had to take her in! She isn't the same....she's sleeping a lot, doesn't walk good and wants to eat but it's like she gets nauseated within a sniff of it. I ended up taking her in and as he tried to give her an anti-vomiting shot she went beserk so he couldnt even touch her.Let's just say my face is now feeling all of it.  She is very high strung, they had to sedate her the last time before he could examine her. So he sent me home with anti-vomiting pills cut up in little corners and some pink liquid that is for any possible  illness and fever and etc. I gave her that around 1230pm today and THANKFULLY she has not thrown up once as of that time. She ate right after she took the medicine, but not much. I tried giving her food (the bland died from the doc still) around 640ish and she had a few bites and that's it. She's been on the couch since. We did just move on the 1st, and I think she hates it here. The doc things it is most likely the shock of the move.....does ANYONE know how I can get her to eat and drink again? I can't even eat knowing she's hungry...it's so hard to watch her like this :(. He told me to go get some canned chicken and some baby food-- I'm afraid she still won't eat.

Please help.

Thanks in advance so much!

How old is she? She was fine after the move until a few days ago? What was she like when you moved? Curious, hiding, etc. Could she had gotten into something in the new place? Was it treated for anything such as roaches, rats, termites?

Once you rule out illness or poisons, you have to be persistent. Tuna or baby food  usually cannot be resisted by a healthy cat. Fancy Feast follows closely behind. If you try baby food, be certain to get one with no onions or garlic. Gerber's 2nd food Chicken and Gravy is a popular choice. How about her favorite treats?

Don't let this go on as it can make things much worse. Follow up with the Vet as she may need fluids and/or force feeding. There are many posts in the forum about encouraging a cat to eat. Here is a link to a site about encouraging your cat to eat.

Good luck

Thanks for your reply! Yes she was fine when we moved...she was curious but every sound she heard scared her a lot. The doc can't examine her cus she won't let him near her....he said he'd have to sedate her but wants to stay away from that because he doesn't know if she's seriously sick so he's not sure if it would kill her. Also, she never was a tuna eater...although I'm going to attempt that now.  She didn't get into anything and the vet said that if it was something as far as poising it would have had to be done when the house was wet with such chemicals, which it wasn't when we moved in. Therefore he said it couldn't be that.

Thanks for the link! I will deff check it out. I don't know what else to do.. I will have to go ge tbaby food tomorrow nad I hope she eats. I've researched google and most with my issue said it would take 2-3 weeks for the cat to readjust and to just persist that she eats if she wants. Thats what the vet said too....but I'm still very scared that it's something worse.

how do I tell if it's getting worse?

Thanks!

It sounds like more than the move that is the problem.  Cats dont usually vomit like this because they are under stress.

You may have to sedate her. She cannot go on like this because not eating or drinking is worse than the risk of sedation IMO.  Again, how old is she? That could be a factor in the sedation if she is extremely old.

If your vet continues to refuse to sedate, I would get her to another vet.  She needs to be examined.  Hands on.Cats can only go so long without food and water..

Good luck and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you everyone for your reply. Lilly is 4 years old. She is actually doing A LOT better. I've been giving her the medicine and she's eaten a few times. She is back to her same self behavior wise. She has had some water and is playing a lot. She ate twice today and used the bathroom. I feel as though she is coming back around...but she's still not eating like she used too. The vet says to keep offering her food and take it day by day and she'll come around.

I'm still nervous.

Good to hear that she is doing better.

Just make sure she is eating at least 15 calories per pound every day. For the average female cat this is around one 5.5 oz can of food. Anything less for an extended period can make her very ill.
