Well my latest mission was a colony on my cat route in town, I've been noticing it growing bigger and bigger, so I trapped Sat. night for the clinic on Sunday.

One cat in particualr I really wanted to get since she was/is sooo thin!

I suspected something had to be wrong, so I requested her teeth to be examined during her appt with the vet.

Sure enough, she has only 9 teeth intact. Not loose.

She has an ulcer on her tongue and they suspect Stomatitis. I am giving her (sneaking it in her food-she's feral) Doxy to clear it up but know it's only a bandaid.

I can't possibly put her back, but I am wondering if she had the last 9 teeth removed if it will clear her up. I know that sometimes even total teeth extracting doesn't always fix this.

I have had cats with no teeth, one I had removed, same problem, one who just didnt have them left probably from very poor nutrition, which is not uncommon in a feral. I know she will be fine without them, but I surely did NOT need another permanent resident.

I can only medicate her as long as she is caged and I can control her food, sneaking it in unless she gets pill smart :)

I feel like I'm answering my own question here, I will have to have the rest removed because she can't live life caged...

As you stated, though, complete removal may NOT completely get rid of the problem.  Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.  What did the Vet think?  I guess it probably depends on how bad it is whether or not the odds are good that removing the teeth will solve the issue, huh?

for this girl.
