my 6 years old female tabby was dignosed with feline leukemia 5 years ago.. she has been done real well for all this time till about two week ago when her bahavior changed and she start going to places at home that she has never been before.

she was still eating well so i did not think of it much but the last couple of days i have noticed she eats less and less till last nite she did not eat at all..

i took her to vet this morning that examed her in the past and after the blood test he called me with some bad news.. the result were the virus spreading and very high white cell and no red cell..he noticed a lump in her stomach too..spending money and do blood tranfusion and ivy fluid you can probably buy a month or so for her to be ok but then goes back to where we were..she has no energy and her ear skin and gums are very pale.

i knew this day will come sooner or later but i never thought about what to do.. i prayed all the time to takes forever and she can have a good life.

i don't know what to do?? do transfusion and wait for miracle after that or take her home as is and spend time with her and let her go naturally which i don't feel good about doing that since she can't eat and might be suffering that way.

i can put her to sleep at vet's office after spending sometime with her..

this has been very difficult to deal with.

i could use some help with you guys on what to do and please be straight forward with me of what i should do..

thanks

shawn

shawn,

i am so sorry to hear of your situation.  regrettably, it comes to all of us at some point; i'm sorry it has found you.  i won't waste time...my opinion is that you need to have her put down and not try for a miracle.  i don't know anyone who has received those miracles; the rest of us just spend the $, put our sweet kitties through more procedures, and still lose them.  i think you will know when she needs to be let go, but if you aren't sure about that decision or knowing, then please check http://www.veterinarypracticenews.c...olumns/bond-beyond/quality-of-life-scale.aspx  for a quality of life score and whether hospice/'pawspice' should be continued.

i know that i have grasped at straws myself when faced with the loss of a loved one, but we ARE fortunate in that we can help our friends be out of their misery and pain.  those last moments together in the vets' office are an important time for our love to shine through...i try hard never to cry when i am letting a friend/pet go - they have always been so sensitive to my moods and feelings that i don't want their last experience here on this earth being stressed or worried by my tears.  but believe me, when they are gone i cry like a baby.

i wish you well; you and your sweet girl are in my prayers now.

Oh I am so sorry you and your sweet little friend are going through this.

I have gone through so many of these situations.  One thing I have learned.....better a day too soon than a day too late.  I have tried to hang on to them, prayed, cried.  Bargained with the great beyond to please get my kitty through this. Sometimes, I have let them go too late.  And I feel awful when that happens.  To let them go a day early is easier for me.  I know they could have suffered longer, but life with pain is no life.

God Bless you for wanting to do the right thing.  Your kitty has a wonderful friend in you.

thanks for the feedback.. i decided to go to the vet to put her to sleep.. i am taking some her favorite toys and spend some time with her. i talked to few friends and they all said the same thing..believe me if i was rich i would do blood transfusion every month regardless.. please pray for me and give me strength because i will be crying out there with her..

i found her as a stray by my home starving 6 years ago.. the only good thing about it is that she lived a good life for 6 years and i gave her my best.. she does not know what is happening to her now and she just go to sleep like when she was at home and she will wake up in pet heaven next to my other cat..

here is a picture of her

I am so sorry to hear this.  Any chance the vet can come to your home instead of you going to the vet?

It is very kind of you to take away her pain and let her go onto kitty heaven.  She knows she has been loved the past 6 years.

{{{Hugs}}} to you during this difficult time.

I am so very sorry for your loss, Shawn.......but by letting her go to heaven, you did it out of much love and she's now pain free, full of energy and zipping around up there with the energy and playfulness of a kitten again and she is thankful for the 6 years of love that you gave to her.   Bless your heart.   I know how difficult it is to be in a situation like this, believe me I know......and people who aren't animal lovers don't understand.....but I will keep you in my prayers.   You did the right thing for her.

Thanks... One thing is bothering me is since I found out her diagnose I gave her immuno dmg tablets ( suplement to boost immune system)for the last 5 years ... Never miss a day.. but then about 45 days ago they were on back order I could not order anymore and I wonder if that did speed up the problem for her

We are blessed that we can be there for our cats at this time and let them go with love and without suffering.

You did a wonderful thing making sure Nazzy had 6 well-loved  years.

I am going to lock this thread now. I am so sorry for your loss. When you feel like it, you might consider posting a tribute to Nazzy in our Bridge Forum.
