I have three cats. All have been strays that I have adopted. First one is 7 and queen of the house and she is declawed. Bob, half feral came along about 9 months ago in neglected condition. His back keg was burned and he was pretty scratched up from all the fights he had been in. It looks like someone chopped off his tail, as it is about 3-4 inches long and what is left is broken. I got him into a cat kennel cage and took him immediately to the vet where they neutered him and cleaned him up, shots etc. He was pretty mean but as become quite loving. We live in the country and he loves to hunt at night. He is about 2 years old. I need to find a cat collar that is a break away but stronger than a normal one. He has lost 5 in 9 months. I just want people to know he belongs to someone. I just caught a feral about 3 months old. It loves Bob. Bob doesn't seem to mind the feral. I know it is hard but I want to tame the Feral. I am taking it in to get fixed this week. Any suggestions on collars or ferals are welcome.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I'm not familiar with stronger breakaway collars. The better idea might be to find a good source of really cheap breakaway collars! :lol3:

Maybe ask the vet about an ear tattoo? When we have our ferals fixed, we have them ear-tipped. It's visible so should be clear to people the cat had medical attention from someone at some point. (And we can quickly see if the cat in the trap has been sterilized already). Maybe when you have future ferals fixed, if they're going to be indoor-outdoor, only outdoor, have that done? It's pretty standard when practicing TNR.

I volunteer for a TNR group and at one of our recent meetings someone brought up a collar that velcros together. It's stronger than a breakaway but still safe. You may want to research something like that.
