In the USA, November 11 is the official date for Veteran's Day. I'll take this oppourtunity to offer my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all those who serve in our forces. Not just the people who actually join and serve, but their families too, because the families also serve.

Thank you, to all of you who serve or have served. You are our heroes.

And while we observe Veteran's Day, remember that the original meaning was the signing of the Armistice that ended World War 1.

That is interesting so I did some reading. It seems they are two different commemorations. One is Armistice Day, celebrating the World War I Armistice, which is celebrated worldwide.

The United States Government later expanded this date and meaning to commemorate ALL veterans of US forces, alive or dead, not just the ones who fought and died in WWI.

Memorial Day is the day when veterans who died in service are honored.

Very interesting history about this day, thanks for posting the additional info.

You are most welcome.  My friend, Dale - who died last year - would not celebrate Veteran's Day, but together we would celebrate Armistice Day.  We also celebrated Saturnalia, so you can see we were both non-standard.

Not just those lost. ALL veterans, living or dead, are honored today. And I include their families, because they also sacrifice.

Memorial Day is the day those who lost their lives in service to our country are honored.

Yeah we honour all the veterns and those that are injured but originally it was for the end of WW1 then those lost in WW2 thats how it was described yesterday at the remembrance parade :) It means different things in different countries, I to read up and it is interesting to see the different ways it is remembered.

From what I learned in school to the meaning of the 11th is different to the meaning of it now and that is in the space of only 10years
