I don't think it is the best thing for her. If she steals one, so be it but don't make it a regular part of her diet. Too much sugar. Now are this Italian fig cookies or Fig Newtons?

The only fruits I know of that may be harmful to cats are avocados and grapes/raisins. I do not believe figs are harmful to cats.

I usually pinch a tiny corner off whatever I'm eating to share with the kitties ;).

My cat stole a ginger cookie from me the other day and ate the whole thing.

i can understand stealing meat or even cheese, but cookies?

Maybe something about the figs smell good to them.

My sister's extremely obese cat 'Roundy' once took a whole cheesecake off the kitchen counter and devoured the entire thing!  She had company over and planned to serve it for dessert
Roundy lived a good many years after that incident.  He was the fattest cat I have ever seen tho.

We sure laughed
Roundy actually lived to the ripe age of 16, which was incredible considering his girth.   Now my sis obviously has a different philosophy on letting a cat get that obese, but I'm quite sure Roundy had a most wonderful life when he died peacefully in her arms.

Very old thread but just incase anyone comes across this looking to find out the real answer -
I highly recommend you DO NOT give your cat fig of any kind
"Causes of Fig Poisoning in Cats. ... Figs trees also produce fruit (figs) which, while safe for humans to eat, are also dangerous if your cat ingests them. Thetoxic substances in fig plants are proteolytic enzyme (ficin) and psoralen (ficusin), both of which can attack the DNA of your cat's cells."

To back up what Roguee Roguee posted, the ASPCA says the same thing: figs are toxic to cats. (Link here)

I know I'm kind of a buzzkill about this stuff but beyond the toxicity, I have to agree with the earlier posters on this thread, that it's best not to get cats started on this kind of people food. Particularly since a cat's natural diet is meat. There are just too many things -- like those enzymes -- that aren't good for cats that we don't even realize are in our foods.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that about figs. They are not something I eat very often, but it's good to know.
