I love living here in Florida - but can you believe they still haven't determined the election results for this state! Not that it affects anything, but it sure is a strange thing to happen. Polls were really jammed and people waited in line for up to 6 hrs. Scanners didn't work and it was a mess in general. The election supervisor for Lee County (Ft. Myers) is in big trouble for all the issues in that county.

Why do they always seem to have trouble with elections there? I can't understand people waiting in line for 6 hours to vote! It's hard enough to get people out voting as it is, with stuff like that happening I could see people just not bothering and that's a real shame.

How in the world did they expect people to fill out a 10-page ballot in a timely fashion? I read that results aren't expected till some time tomorrow (Saturday).

The whole thing is just unbelievable. I guess Florida is the laughing stock of the country -- just like we were a few years ago!!

We did the absentee ballots so didn't have the issues of waiting in line. But now I wonder how accurate they were.

Maybe Florida officials will be so embarrassed this time that they'll make some major changes. If bigger states like California and Texas can do it right, there's no reason why Florida can't.

My Mom (in Connecticut) is always laughing at us. Anyone remember the Fruitcake Lady? I googled "Fruitcake Lady Florida vote" and the first part of the youtube video was the part I was looking for. It's hilarious. I didn't post the link though because some of her language is a little too colorful for this site.

It's because Florida is weird, and we operate in the twilight zone.:lol3: I've come to accept it over the years.

If you like Dave Barry, he does absolutely hilarious riffs on Florida, especially Miami (very near the infamous Palm Beach County).

Here is one of his longer pieces on Miami. Absolutely hysterical.

The explanation is simple: Florida used up all of its awesome when making me, and it hasn't recovered since. :D

Seriously, though, Gov. Scott needs to shape up and address these issues instead of repeatedly denying them, which is ANNOYING.

Thanks for sharing this article. I absolutely love Dave Barry's sense of humor. He is hysterical. He once did a column on people who go on cruises that I just loved and of course could relate to.

By the way, do you know what he is doing now? Haven't heard much about him in a long time.

He's retired as a regular columnist at the Herald, but he still contributes special humor pieces sometimes, like for the elections. He's getting into his sixties so I think he mostly writes books.

If you Google "Dave Barry Miami Herald," they have a collection of his funny columns. His website also has several good ones, and he has a few books that are collections of his columns, as well as some fiction novels and funny non-column books. He's very talented.

After the 2000 election, there were some funny bumper stickers on cars in Florida.

Don't blame me. I voted for Buchanan/Lieberman.

Caution! I drive like I vote.

Honk if you voted for Gore. It's the round button in the center of your steering wheel.
