I have a 7month old kitten named Octavius.

He is caught up on all of his shots and has been dewormed but I think he is overeating. I have been leaving dry food out for him all day and night but I was finding that he was finishing his entire "gravity" dish in 2-3 days. I have noticed lately that he has been throwing up his cat food and now he has diarrhea. He is the run of his little and doesn't seem to be filling out the way he should so is it possible he is overeating to compensate for his size? How much dry food should I allow him to eat every day? Should I put his food up at night??

I would double check with your vet; but I know the dry food I feed has a chart on the bag that tells me how much to feed per day based on their weight.  I feed my cats twice a day.  The diarrhea (if you haven't recently changed foods; a sudden change of food can cause it) would also make me think consulting your vet would be a good idea.

The amount of food to feed on the bags is an average - a guide.  This kitten will still be growing, and kittens need more food than adults.  If he isn't getting fat then he's not eating too much.  Looking up condition scoring will help if you are not sure.
