This is for a neighbors cat named "Puck".

Puck was run over by a vehicle early yesterday morning just outside my neighbors place and was found by other neighbors. She died almost immediately, apparently.

Puck was a small/petite young female cat just under two years old with medium/long white fur with darkish gray patches.

Her meow sounded more like a squeak!

She was an independently minded airy fairy type of cat who didn't really like to be picked up (she would often nip or bite). She would come up to you for a quick cuddle or pet when it suited her and then move on.

She was a VERY fussy eater apparently! She would only eat a couple of types of food prepared in a way which she liked.

She was scared a bit of strangers.

She liked to climb trees, and was often on roofs of garages and homes! She even climbed amongst the rafters in my garage on several occasions!!

She did tend to wander a bit (unfortunately), and was found up to several hundred yards away from home on occasion!

Last time I saw, talked and petted her was about a week ago when she was on top of the neighbors fence post and again later when she was along my driveway.

About one year ago, she was hit by a vehicle early one morning outside my neighbors place and suffered a fractured right rear leg and damage to her tail also. Amputation of either or both appendages was seriously considered. However, vets were able to save both in the end and she recovered nicely!

Unfortunately, this event didn't seem to deter her from wandering, with the worst possible outcome that occurred yesterday.

I'll miss her as she was often at my place and she was definitely a "character".

RIP Puck!

Even the little ones who might not have a place to call home are remembered by those who love cats. I have on several ocassions found cats that were hit by cars and killed and taken them off the road to our place where they can have a proper burial. Sometimes I feel that it is so sad that so many of our animal friends cannot live safely in the world we people have created. It breaks my heart to see a cat who hasn't made it across the street. It is just one of the dangers they live with, especially those without real homes. Thank you for sharing your love for that little cat.

So sad for young kitty Puck. Poor babies do not understand the danger of cars.

As much as I know cats love the outdoors and as much as I have owned many outdoor cats I will no longer do it. I have lost too many to predators or other lethal mean (I had one cat poisoned by a neighbor).

I now have five indoor cats and to compensate for their desire to be "one with nature," I built a screened-in, outdoor cat enclosure (8' x 8' x 4') on the back of my house that they access through a window that has a cat door opening. It was the best thing I ever did for they spend hours in it and now, even if I accidentally leave a door open, they will NOT go out of the house.

Here are Ellie and Ringo snoozing in the cat enclosure:

Comments appreciated!

Our street is moderately busy with vehicular traffic, unfortunately. I'm aware of several other cats/kittens that have been killed by vehicles along our street over the past year.

Some cats do not appear to wander onto the street and remain at or near home. My cat "Gimli" (6 year old) and my other neighbors' cat (about 13 year old) don't (as far is known) wander onto the street, fortunately!

"Little Puck", was how I usually called Puck (because she was small and mischievous).

She was about 6 weeks old when adopted by the neighbor.

She was often at my place chasing after flying insects and anything else that moved!

Until about three months ago, the neighbors were often at my place looking for Puck to call her in (mostly) at tea time. But frequently Puck didn't want to go home at that time, and she would run away from the neighbors and run up trees and hide in bushes etc! It was entertaining to watch the neighbors trying to catch her! However, recently she began settling down and she usually went home without pursuit required!!

Apart from offering condolences to my neighbors, I suggested that when (if) they get another cat that they consider getting a more mature cat (at least 2 years of age) as they are usually more settled and less prone to wandering and you usually know what sort of character you are getting also.

Very sad that she didn't have a chance to live longer. She wasn't quite 2 years old.

I miss her!!
