It can be dangerous to become complacent when you work with ferals. Wink just nailed me for absolutely no reason-

Oh OUCH! That's gotta hurt! I know you know how to clean the scratches...but please be careful with those!

I wonder what's up with Wink? Maybe it's her "time of the month"?
Sorry to make light of it MA...I'm sure that hurts quite a bit!

Wow...after taking a second look at that pic...she nailed your leg? At first it looked like your arm, but now I can tell it's the back of your leg. Damn...that's a bad one!

Oops! I was right the first time! It kind of looks like the back of your leg...oh well, I'm just crazy!

What caused her to wig out on you?

In general, I find there are two kinds of ferals - the ones I call "tigers" and then there are the "Scaredy Cats". I much prefer the latter.
Of course, even the scaredies can lash out if they feel the need to defend themselves.

I did have one who, out of the blue, went from purring to raking my face with his claws.

Try explaining that to people who look with horror and ask "WHY would you have an animal like THAT??"

The face-raker turned out to be the sweetest and most affectionate cat I had ever had, but it took a year to tame him.

i don"t know what set her off- the worst part of it was when she hooked me and hung off my elbow like a mountain climber..until mike could disengage her

That is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO painful. Nimby does that once in while. We cut his nails really short now so he can't get us. We called it "cuddle attack" He was doing it because he wanted us to hold him and we were in the middle of doing something else.

Oh that looks so sore.

When I was helping a friend in her grooming shop, one of the groomers was bitten and clawed by a cat. It was awful the owner had to pry the cat off the groomers leg. The girl who was bitten was on antibiotics for a month.

I hope you heal quickly.
