Hey I found a ferel kitten in my yard, he is about four weeks old. I dont have money to take him to a vet but wanted to help him become healthy and than adopt him out. He seems to have a cold, and Closed goopy eye (looks infected) I gave him amoxicillion and been wiping his eye with a cloth. I heard if I use nesporin it will help but I need advice..... Please I want to help this little guy!!!! Thanks

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Aw, thanks for helping him!

Unfortunately, the closed goopy eye is likely due to herpes virus - although without testing, there's no way to really know (unless it clears up while he's on antibiotics). Our cat lost her eye to the herpes virus, it caused ulcers and corneal scarring. We fought for 7 months to save her eye, but finally had to make the decision to have it removed. She does great without it, but thus my caution on the not using a vet option....

Is there a rescue organization that can take in the little guy so he gets the treatment he needs? :dk: I know you want to help him, but resources seem a bit of an issue. :rub:

Yes, Herpes is contagious, like a cold. Also depends on the cats/kittens immune system and stress, etc. If this kitten lets you wipe its eye and treat him, then he is not a feral kitten. The poor little thing. I am not sure you should be giving that antibiotic but Amoxi is pretty safe. You would need the correct dosage though. I would start making calls to see if you can find a foster network through a rescue or humane society that can nurse this baby back to health and get him adopted. This little one needs medical attention. Kittens can go downhill quickly. Thank you :hugs: so much for taking him in as he surely would not have survived out there on his own. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for this little baby.
