Please help! I adopted two kittens from the local humane society four days ago. One of the kittens was positive for coccidia and I did not know it. He has been having yellowish liquid stools since I got him. The little girl was not positive for coccidia. After a trip to the vet, and another positive stool sample both kittens were started on albon. They have had two full days of albon. How long until the albon works? I work night shift full time and cannot be home to clean up after them all the time. The male goes in the litter box but he steps in his liquid stool. He has throw up a couple times too. I'm making sure they both eat and drink. This is just kind of overwhelming with having to clean and disinfect stuff all the time, worrying that they will get dehydrated, worrying that I am going to catch it too. Will they ever get better from this? They are both about 3 months old. Or is this something I will be battling for their lives? I am just feeling overwhelmed and feel like they will never get better. How long before the albon starts working? Any advice or words of wisdom is much appreciated

Give them a little more time and you should start to see an improvement. I have dealt with it many times, as long as you are washing your hands whenever you clean up behind them I would not worry about catching it. You can add a probiotic to their food to help their bellies, just sprinkle it on their food. Keep an eye on their hydration, if they become dehydrated they need to go to the vet for fluids. To check their hydration pinch the skin on the back of the necks and pull up, if it stays when you let go they are dehydrated (it should snap right back in place). Hang in there coccidia can be nasty, but it will clear up.

Is vomiting normal with coccidia? Or is it a side effect of the albon? Copper, the one who actually has the coccidia, has vomited 4 times in the past 24 hours. He is staying hydrated but I'm worried that there is something else wrong

I would call your vet, mine don't vommit with coccidia or albon. 4 times in a day would be enough to worry me.

Actually just got back from the vet and read this. I called them because I was concerned since Copper was so lethargic and wasn't interested in eating or drinking. They had me come in, and Copper did not have a fever, but had lost 3 oz since the first vet visit. They gave him some fluids, a shot with steroids and an antibiotic in it, and started him on some wet kitten food. I hope with the Albon, the shot, the fluids, and the wet food he will start to feel better soon. I just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you CatNamedPanda for your advice, it has helped greatly.
