i'm noticing my pets wet food gives different instructions, so im confused how much wet food to give her.

3 oz = 3 lbs (this is fancy feast that wants me to feed my cat 3 cans a day!)
6 oz = for an 8 lb adult cat (this is natural balance)

EDIT: forgot to add, my cat is 11 months old, weights 11 lbs.

Firstly is your cat the right weight?  Google for 'contidion scoring' to get an idea how to judge that.  Cats vary hugely in size and build and hence correct weight.

If she is the right weight, then if she is neither gaining or losing she is getting the right amount.

l think, but l'm not positive, that they go by calories alone.

l don't know what flavours you're comparing, but l'll compare two similar flavours of each brand:

Natural Balance Chicken & Liver

                                  Protein       Fat        Carbs         Phos.         Calories

Chicken & Liver Pate       40           33           18             1.34              215 (6oz can)

Fancy Feast Classic Pate Chicken

                                  Protein       Fat        Carbs          Phos.         Calories

Chicken Feast                50            23            4              2.10              91 (3oz can)

Going by these numbers alone, l'd choose the FF over the Naural Balance - there's more protein and less carbs. The first 3 ingredients of each are roughly the same. FF then lists a few by-products, followed by guar and vitamins. NB has carrots, rice, eggs, guar and vitamins. My choice from these two would be Fancy Feast.

Anyway, l'm easily distracted
, l was listing calories! The NB 6oz can has 215 calories, whereas 2 x 3oz cans of FF would only have 182 calories (with more protein) so you would have to feed more FF to ensure they got enough calories per body weight.

The Chicken FF used in the example says to feed one x 3oz can per 3 1/2 pounds of body weight.

So it would be roughly 2 1/3 can per 8lb cat.

lt depends a lot on the ingredients too. Mine went from eating around 8oz a day each, to now between 6.2 and 6.6oz per day on a mixed raw and canned diet. Obviously my hurler needs to be fed less because he's keeping it on the inside and gaining weight, but the other two are satisfied with less food. l don't even look at calories, l just go by amount per feeding x 3 feedings.

okay, thanks! Yeah, my cat doesnt eat much either, if i happen to put more than she can eat, she will leave it on the plate. She will even walk away form her favorite treats once she is full. Which is a good thing so she wont get too full.

Does your cat have dry food available also?  Usually I leave dry food out all the time and once a day my cats get wet.  They each usually eat about 3oz of wet a day.  Have 8 healthy cats.
