My boy has stuff coming out of one eye most days.  It isn't a lot, but it's black and turns into a blackish ball.  I'm used to cats with flu etc, but this is different.  It probably is inconsequential, but because he has a deformed chest and was the only one in his litter who survived, I keep a really close eye on him. I just clean it out and do a bit of a saline wash every now and again.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas... I'm thinking allergies. . He does not have any major diseases and has been scrupulously immunised.

It might just be a blocked tear duct. Mazy cat gets that every once in a while, just as you describe it, a little bit of black crud builds up over the day. The vet diagnosed it as a blocked duct. I put her on l-lysine, and remove the boogie each day, It usually lasts a week or two, then stops, and I forget about it until the next time. I don't really know if the l-lysine is making a difference or not, it's definitely not the herpes virus, but I give it to her for the duration, anyway.
