Keko had his re-check today and the vet is going to send home more Clavamox for Keko, and he still has the pot belly which I guess goes along with the possible FIP.  They also sent a pill home for worms just in case (even though he had a worm pill when he was about 6 weeks old - they just want to be safe.)  I don't think he has worms.  This is going to all run into the time that we are leaving to drive 1000+ miles for my mother's memorial service.  I am going to have to board him at the vet's office while we are gone I guess.  I do not know what I am going to do with this kitty.  I love him to death, and I know several people on this forum told me that FIP isn't nearly as contagious as they once thought it was.........But it still worries me.  Especially the longer he is there.  After putting all this money into him and loving him so much I don't want to have him put down but it may come to that!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter's birthday is tomorrow (she's not a youngster, she's going to be 38) but she called me in tears and said that she doesn't want to go out to eat or do anything for her birthday.  She's worried about the kitty, and she said her birthday is going to be awful with Gramma not here with us.

It's really been a  horrible year and a really bad couple of months.................

What happened, when did little kitty get sick again?  What symptoms of illness does this kitty currently have?

As far as I know they have no test to "rule out" FIP as of yet.  What are the symptoms of his "relapse" and was he normal before the relapse?  Also, why the Clavamox?  To try and get beat any types of infections I suppose but wonder why Clavamox was prescribed.  If you can give more info about the kitty getting sick again maybe someone can offer ideas.  I went through this with one of my cats and finally found something to treat him with that helped.

Yeah, that's what I thought too (no test to rule out FIP.)

I brought him back in because she wanted to re-check  him and just see how he was doing.  The night before I brought him in, he seemed a little warm to me (but I didn't take his temperature or anything) and he slept a tad bit more in the morning than he usually does.  So no real relapse.   She thought he looked a little "pot-bellied" and was concerned about the fluid build up that FIP can produce in the tummy.  The worm pill is a mystery to me.  I really don't think he has worms.  When we first got him they were crawling in and out.  (yuck) but I haven't seen any since we gave him his first dose which was only 1/4 of a pill "Dontril" or something like that.  He has been playful, eats like a pig, his stools are back to normal.  I just don't see him as being sick.  But the rescue group doesn't want him now.  I told them what they suspected because I thought it was only fair that they know.  So now we have another cat (I can barely afford the ones I already have plus I have my Mom's cat now because she passed away a little over a month ago.)  I would love to keep this little man, but I don't feel like it's the right thing for him OR me OR my cats!!

I'm really depressed and just at a loss over this whole situation.

Some cats and kittens are naturally a bit pot-bellied, and sometimes it takes more than one dose to get rid of worms.  I think I'd do some more worming - Drontal is very effective, but Panacur is suitable for kittens and effective against roundworms.

http://www.fabcats.org/owners/worming/info.html

When to worm your cat

As roundworms are very prevalent in kittens it is important to worm them very frequently when they are young. The recommendations are to treat every two weeks from about six weeks of age to 16 weeks of age, with a drug active against roundworms.

Tapeworms are only usually a problem in older cats, so adult cats need to be treated with a drug active against both roundworms and tapeworms. The precise frequency of treatment recommended will vary slightly depending on for example whether the cat hunts and whether or not it is treated regularly for fleas (fleas can become infected when taking blood from the cat).

Treatment is recommended every 2-3 months in adult cats, with a drug active against roundworms and tapeworms, possibly extending to 6 months for an indoor cat.

What kind of worms did kitty have initially?  When one of my newly adopted kitties had worms, the dosage required 2 rounds spaced about 2-3 weeks apart to get rid of the worms in different stages of development.

Did he actually have a temperature when he went for the vet recheck (guessing the vet took his temp when she saw him again)?

Oriental:  I didn't know that! --- that kitties need to be wormed more than once.  The vet gave me another pill for him.  I will give that to him TONIGHT!!  I thought she was crazy!  I am sometimes amazed at how ignorant I can be even though I've had cats all my life.  I'm 58 yrs old for God's sake.  I could just hit myself over the head.

Ty:  I don't know if he had a fever or not.  He got "worked in" for an appt and I only got to talk to one of the receptionists about Keko.  I failed to ask that question.  (Another bop on the head for me!)

Someone wants to come take a look at him today to see if she wants him.  The rescue group lady told her all about his medical history and this lady is still interested.  I hope she loves him as much as I do.  I would love to keep him but he has kind of changed the dynamics of the house (my other babies don't sleep on my lap much anymore and they don't like to sleep on my bed when he's there because he wants to play so much.)
