Hi the Kitten is 6 weeks old and earlier today my mum accidently stood on her, There are 4 kittens and they where running around she was hurt quite badly and was in alot of shock and she was bleeding (Also someone stole the mother about a week ago :(.) So we rushed her to the vet and he has checked her over and xrayed her entire body and she as also had pure oxygen.

We collected her around 2 hours ago, The vet said that he recommended she stay the weekend and we collect her on monday all being well or we can take her home and nurse her and then return on monday for a check  up or the 3rd option is we say goodbye.

We chose the second option as we cannot afford the first. She has antibiotics that we have to give her and she has had some pain relief at the vets. she has no broken bones no injuries just a bruised paw and no internal bleeding but the vet described her as depressed. She is constantly asleep and is very very lethargic will hardly move on her own at all. I've managed to get some water down her and she has had some special food from the vet administered with a syringe which she took, whilst her eyes were closed. she opens them slightly when you lift her up but she is basically life less. I need some help/advice on what i should do next. should i just keep her warm let her sleep and keep giving her water and hope that maybe she is just a little sedated from the pain killers?

Please help.

Thanks

Jessica :( x

Poor kitten, you've got to be extremely careful when walking around kittens, shuffling rather than walking with feet picked up off the floor just in case one gets underfoot.

How did someone steal the mother, was she not indoors?

Sounds like she would be better being left at the vets under proper care, didn't they give you any instructions on how to care for her, how she's likely to behave?

Is she separated now from the other kittens. She needs to be kept warm. Also follow the instructions the vet gave you on giving the water and the special food. Is the kitten in a place so you can tell if her bowel and urinary functions are working.

Thanks for the replies as i said we could not afford for her to stay over the weekend. However i am following the instructions the vet gave but i just worry it may be in vain. It's very upsetting to see.

Also the mother was out for an hour or so a day and some small children on our road spotted someone enticing her with food. How disgusting.

she is being kept in a blanket she is warm but she has not been to the toilet for number 2 but may have peed a little.

Keep a close eye on her. She may not have pooped because she hasn't eaten much. How often did the vet tell you try to feed and give water.

Well as he couldn't manage to give her anything he just said try and get some water down her and food so he didn't say how often, she has just taken some of the special food i gave her a tiny amount followed by some water, most of it goes to the side of her mouth but she definately ingests some. How Regular should i try and feed her and give her water?

Hopefully whoever took her is getting her spayed then, cats are not be to outside until they've been fixed as they get pregnant again very soon after giving birth.

You need to phone your vet and ask

A homemade pedialyte could be:

1 litre water

1 soupspoon dextrose-sugar

1 teaspoon kitchen salt

Heat up into boiling to kill off eventual bacteria. Let it be cool down body temp...  '

Give rather frequently, as she takes only a little at a time.

You know, in the corner of the mouth, with her on the stomach.

NOT into the neck, and not laying on back.

Good luck!    *vibes*
