Five days ago, my mom accidently let out my sweet baby Sgt Van Buttons. He's just so fast and curious, he slipped out before we could do anything. He's actually escaped quite a few times before, but he's always stayed in our backyard & just hid underneath our porch, and he's always come back inside. The longest he's been out was for two days and we would see him running around outside. This time however, we haven't seen him at all. We didn't do anything at first, because we just assumed he'd come back like always, but it's been so long now & I'm very worried.

He's two years old and neutered. He's been an inside cat all his life & he has a collar with our phone number and address on it, but nobody has called. We looked everywhere for him, informed all our neighbors & even put up flyers earlier today & still nothing ):   It's been raining a lot for the past few days so I feel like that may be delaying his return & maybe he's just scared hiding somewhere.

I know cats have a pretty good sense of direction, but I'm still very worried that he got himself lost. I put his dirty litter box and some food out back, hoping that maybe it would help him scent his way back. It's under cover, so it should be protected from the rain. We also live in a very safe neighborhood and there's hardly any cars around, so I highly doubt he'd get hit. He's so shy and timid, so I don't think he'd come to anybody either. I'm just so worried. I don't know what else to do. I love him so much & I'm very close to him. I've never had a pet run away and I am in total panic right now!!

I just pray he comes back. & I hope he'll be able to find food for himself. I have this huge pit in my stomach that just won't go away. I'm so worried I can't even sleep. I can't stop thinking about my sweet baby & I just want to cry all the time :,( He's slept with me nearly every night since we brought him home as a kitten two years ago, so I'm very lonely without him. I just miss him so much it hurts!! I really need support!! & I would very much appreciate some comforting words if you have them :)

I k now just how you feel, as this happened to me, and others, and, luckily, we found my girl after 3 weeks.  She was next door under their porch.  I'm just hoping your lil guy is taking refuge out of the rain somewhere and will be back sooner than later.

It's good that all your neighbors are on the lookout, and the flyers might help too.  Sounds like you are doing everything you can.  I'm guessing you spend lots of time walking around calling his name, shaking bags of treats or food, whatever, to try to get his attention?  Did you call around to different shelters in case he got picked up?  (just in case his collar came off if it's a breakaway collar?)

that he returns before nightfall

Most indoor-only cats who escape to the outdoors stay close to home.  Chances are good that your kitty has been in or near your yard since getting out of the house.   I agree with you that the rain has been discouraging him coming out from hiding.   You've been doing some of the right things already (keeping used litter and food out).  Keep doing that.  Please see this website for additional advice & tips on getting your cat back home:   www.catsinthebag.org

You'll need to buy or borrow a humane cat trap.  The tips on the site will explain how to go about using the trap.  Keep in mind that some cats will be harder to trap than others, but don't give up.  It can sometimes take weeks, but hopefully your kitty will be one of those who goes into the trap quickly.

Hoping you're reunited with your little guy very soon.
