For one week only HAHA

Im filling in for Draco :)

Did you have many trick or treaters last night?

I had one lot of "kids".  They were a group of teenagers so there was no way I was answering the door!

We had 250 kids!

Cute story: a teenage girl was dressed as a magician, with a rabbit in the hat.  I reached to pet the fake rabbit--then it moved! She had her pet dwarf black bunny in the hat! It was so darned adorable.  It let me pet it, and rub noses. So cute!

We had kids.  Maybe about 100.  Dh and dd bought 2 big bags of candy and they were almost gone.  BUT- I was being generous with it- the chocolate were the tiny ones, so I kind of gave big handfuls to some of the really little kids (like they needed that much anyways). They're always so cute :)

Dd asked a friend over.  A group of her friends came by- they had a younger sibling with them.  Both kids politely asked for candy- so I let both of them take a handful.  We did have bigger kids, and for the most part they were really polite too.

Got the shock of my life seeing the "little" girl on the corner.  She's shot up!  And then I freaked her dad out b/c he wanted to know where my girls were, and his jaw dropped when I said "one's in her bedroom- the other one is in Lynchburg in her 1st semester in college".

It's actually been a couple of years since we've handed out candy.  Last year the kids had an orchestra rehersal, and I was mean- told them that they were way too old for Trick or Treat and we pay far too much in tuition for you to miss rehersal.  They got candy anyways.

Before that- for the last few years, when the kids got too old to go door-door we wound up going over to church, they have a party on Halloween. They didn't have it last night, it had to be postponed.  We were spared most of Sandy's fury- but we got a lot of rain, enough so that the field where the "harvest festival" is usally held was a big mud pit.

What!!!!!!
I thought the 35 that Karen had was a lot, but 250!
We always get at least 150. We live in a huge neighborhood of 500 houses, so I'm surprised there aren't even more!

I think it's also because I give out rather generous candy/cookies. The past few years, I've been buying (in a bulk warehouse store) those packets of cookies you get in vending machines.  I always gave out little sacks of 3 bite-sized candy bars, and the cookies are only one or two pennies more in cost--but I don't have to count them out, and sack them up, which I hate doing. I could stand with a bowl at the door, and count out each candy bar, but that would be insane with the groups of 5-10 that show up on the doorstep.  Anyway, mid-way into the night, I heard kids saying to the others coming up the driveway, "They have cookies at that house!".  I'll bet the little darlings text each other on their cell phones to get the word around!

I think this is why my feet were killing me last night and this morning!  I barely got to sit down, even with my friend to help me at times.  After the first year here, she offered to help me, so I've made it a tradition. She (and now, her fiance) come over around 5 PM. I take the day off, and cook a huge meal for us to pick at, buffet-style (and for left-overs for DH when he gets home from work), and make a party out of it.

None. We haven't had any for several years now. (Not that it stops Dear Richard from buying a bag of Reese's Peanut Butter cups and throwing them in the freezer. This year, we got two bags! And I'm eating them.)
