I have just been informed that my kitten is having a allergic reaction to plastic from my vet.  Now I feed him from metal bowls so they are not the cause.  A few of his toys have plastic and they will be discarded but so is his litter box.  I want him to have privacy and enough room to grow (he's goning to be a big boy) but I don't want him to feel any discomfort.  I have seen articles mentioning ceramic litter boxes but no mention of where to find them.  Anyone have any suggestions  thanks :-)

Did the vet say to find non-plastic litter trays?  I know many cats have problems with plastic food bowls, and changing to stainless (or glass) can help.  I would double-check before you splash the cash.  A stainless litter tray won't be cheap, and not all boxes will be suitable as they won't be water-tight.  If he really did mean for you to replace the plastic litter tray, a big pressed roasting dish might work.

I haven't seen any ceramic litter boxes.  Petsmart carries a stainless brand of litter box but for the life of me can't recall the name of it.  Check your local Petsmart or maybe they have them online so you can take a look at them.  They look nice and easy to keep clean and sanitized.

i don't care about the money our family unit's happiness is priceless.  The vet said his toys or his food dishes.  We have stainless steel dishes but everything else is synthetic and or plastic now we are having issues with him not drinking from his bowls so the fountain type probably ceramic will be the way i go.  Thanks for the info about the litter boxes from petsmart i will stop by there this weekend to get him one.  his lip went down when he was at the vet's for his neutering procedure but has started to swell again since he's been home too much plastic and plastic by products around that I am feeling a total house cleanse coming on -no more blinds no more plastic reusable bags in the house and remove all packaging and additional containers as possible.  He is worth this work luckily my other half understands as he is a cat person too

I haven't been able to find a ceramic litter box. I don't really want to do a metal one. I am thinking of building him a wooden one and than tiling the inside of it. It really wouldn't be much of a project. Just get smaller tiles for something like a backsplash and put them in to make it waterproof and easy to clean. It might get pretty heavy though.

I would be concerned about the chemicals used to waterproof and the glue to stick the tiles to the wood.

They also have some kind of cardboard or disposable litter boxes.  You might look into those.

Yes, Nature's Miracle makes disposable litter boxes. I am currently using these with our newest batch of kittens.

Amazon.com has the best prices I have seen.

Part of the purpose of making a wooden one with tile inside is because I do not do throwaway crap other than litter and toilet paper. I don't get why ya'll seem to be against a nice litter box. Should never have posted it.

I don't think anyone's against it, but not everyone is a handyman type person.  Also, some folks are environmentally conscious and concerned about chemicals and their pets.  I don't think anything used to mount tile would be dangerous as it's something I step on every day in the shower, but some people are a bit more cautious than I am.  It's a great idea if you know how to do that or are inclined to figure it out.

Building my own would certainly be better than using a plastic one or using a disposable one.

I am pretty aware of chemicals that are bad. I don't use anything to clean that I am not comfortable eating. I use baking soda, vinegar, and steam for all of my cleaning. I can not use anything made with ethanol which is a neurotoxin. Lysol, made with ethanol is used in doctor's offices, hospitals, etc. so I can not even go to any of these places.

I am permenantly disabled by products with ethanol. It is not an allergy. I am just much more sensitive to a toxic chemical tham most people. I can hardly walk because it effects my motor-controls. I have almost perfect vision after having lasik, but the swelling around my eyes effects my vision so I am not able to drive safely. They do not yet make chemical sensitive glasses. Doctor's do not even believe in my condition because it is not Multiple Chemical Sensitivity or Environmental Illness. It does not make me sick. It is more like a drug (or chemical) in how it effects me. I can taste the chemicals in the air. I do not have chronic fatigue.

I am building this because it would be better for my cat. I do not have to be able to build it to think that it is a good idea. I would certainly not use a disposable product. That is NOT environmentally consious.

They even use tile on countertop and backsplashes in kitchens.
