I have the most wonderful and loving cat, Rudy.  He is 6 years old, and other than being overweight (he is on a diet now) he is great health. A couple of weeks ago i thought I felt a lump on his side, but when I could not find it at a second time I thought it was my imagination.  Yesterday I thought I felt it again and then my son said he thought he has noticed it too.  Needless to say, I have a vet appointment scheduled for this Thursday afternoon.  The lump is soft and fluid and moves around when you feel for it.  I would guess it is about the size of a gumball, and it doesn't cause him any discomfort or pain when you touch it. There is no sign of any puncture or wound at all near where I can feel it.  It is on his right side near the base of his rib cage.  I am just very worried and wondering of others experience with this?  I am anxious about it and wish I could get a vet appointment sooner, but Thursday was the soonest.  I have heard it could be a fatty lump they can drain and so on.  Anyone????

p/s I am probably overly stressed because my Mom is fighting stage 4 ovarian cancer and so cancer is a very scary thing in my life presently.

Bless your heart. I am sorry you are going through so much right now. Prayers for your mother, your cat, and you. It will seem like forever until Thursday. Try to stay focused and remember that things are often not as bad as they seem. Your vet will probably do an x-ray or an ultra sound to determine what the problem is. Hope it turns out to be something simple.:hugs:

Ok, well Rudy is doing great!  I was so nervous.  My vet said that he believes it a fatty deposit/cyst.  He is not concerned about it and said to keep a watch over it and bring him back in if it gets larger.  At the same time I had his shots updated and got him microchipped!  I have been wanting to chip him for a while, but thought it would be very expensive.  It was not, it cost $50.00.  I felt that a very small price for the peace of mind it will provide!
