Our cat had a litter of 6 kittens, and they all matured really fast so we let them leave at 10 weeks, as they were all eating hard food and no longer nursing at all. We decided to keep one kitten, but it seems as though she is really trying to baby it. She will whine her kitten until it follows her and she will lay down and let it nurse.

She does this A LOT. Any ideas? The baby doesn't try to until her mother whines at her enough, she kind of likes her freedom, it's like an over protective mother.

did you let them all go at once, or was it staggered over the course of several days?

while alot  of people re-home kittens at 10 weeks, it's still a wee bit too young, even if the kittens aren't nursing, their education and bonding doesn't just end and can go on several more weeks, even if they aren't outdoor cats, they will still learn socialization and behavior from their mother.

she likely misses her babies, it happens in the wild, if a mother loses some of her litter, she'll dote even more on the remaining kittens.

nursing at that age is likely done for comfort (both on the kitten and mothers part, as when the kittens nurse the mothers body releases "feel good" chemicals) and for bonding and they will likely stop as the kittens ages more.

She's missing her other kittens, getting her spayed will help calm her down, though the hormones still take a few weeks to settle.

Kittens shouldn't leave until 12 weeks and shouldn't leave all at once. It's not uncommon for mums to still baby their kittens for 6 months or more.

Yes, get the cat spayed.

And please make sure the adopting homes get those cats spayed, 12 weeks is early but better than never.

On this note my kitten appeared to be trying to suckle of her brother, she would do the kneading thing into his shoulder, then sort of bury her nose into him,  so cute, wish i got it on film :D
