Hi all,

MY STORY
For the complete story refer to http://www.thecatsite.com/t/249455/please-help-my-kitten-has-a-strange-skin-problem
For the lazy ones,it goes like this-
I adopted a malnourished, orphaned kitten who was one-third its normal weight. He had these large balding areas all over his body and they were increasing at an alarming rate, when he was on a dry/wet food diet.(Refer the link for pics)
I live in India where feline Vets are hard to come by. When I had exhausted all hopes, I found raw-diet, TCS and its REALLY helpful members who helped me bring back my kitty. He is now healthier and happier than ever.

RAW FEEDING
I don't have a speck of doubt on whether to give raw diet to cats or not. After what I have been through, I wont ever go back to processed stuff(no matter how premium it is). But again, opinions vary.
Now , my motive of starting this thread is to gather more knowledge and let others like me know about the wonders of a balanced raw-diet.
Raw diet (one that can be called balanced) is easy to make but takes time to get used to. I have just begun, and have to learn a lot.

Raw diet helped my kitty who looked like this----

Transform into another kitty (in about 3 weeks)--

hank you raw diet and thank you my friends at TCS for helping me out. God bless you.

Hi Deep!!! :wavey:

It is so great having you here at the raw forum!:clap::clap::clap:
Your little one looks amazing!!:clap::clap::clap:

Ok, I will copy and paste your diet from the other thread in here and we can go from there :D

I dont have the weighing scale. But I buy 1 kg of meat everytime.

I tell the guy to put in 800 gms of muscle(400 chicken and 400 mutton) meat,100 gms of neck and soft parts of wings,50 gms of liver and 50 gms of heart/pancreas.

Then I come home and divide it in small portions wrapped in aluminium foil.
As I mentioned in the other thread, hearts are considered muscle meat, just like the chicken and mutton. However they are VERY nutritious, and if you have access to it, by all means do feed heart meals - they are very rich in taurine and other vitamins too!!

So, the organs you have there are the Liver and the pancreas - you do have the percentage of the liver right, but you need to double the qty of the pancreas.
Also the chicken wings are only about 40% bones, so you need to adjust those quantities too, to make sure he is getting enough bones. They are not all bones. You need to redo the math taking that into consideration. Chicken Necks are about 35-36% bones, if the skin hasn't been removed.

I have been feeding him chicken and mutton. I found a REALLY clean meat-shop in a mall, where they give me everything I want(all the organs and stuff). Ever Sunday,I make small portions using the muscle:eek:rgan:bone ratio that you had suggested(only after briefly immersing it in boiling water). Then I wrap each portion in aluminium foil,so its easy to defrost/thaw it in a bowl of water.
Then there is egg two times a week, and a little yogurt at times.
A coconut oil massage on alternate days.
I had an omega-3 & 6 supplement(which had fish oil).
Also, a small dose of liver supplement and vitamins on a regular basis.
:clap::clap::clap: AWESOME that you found a great source!!!
Remember to not boil the bony chicken parts - the wings and the necks, so the bones don't become brittle.....
Also, what supplement are you using for him? It is an oil or capsule? Oils work better, I think.... And I know you got the fish oil, so you might want to try that once you run out of the one you are currently using.
If you are feeding liver, don't feed him a liver supplement - only the liver will do it - he can't have too much vitamin A

On the eggs: Wash the eggs well to prevent salmonella. The egg yolk can be served raw. The egg whites need to be cooked - they don't need to be cooked really hard, but at least lightly cooked. They can't be served raw though :nono:

And least but not last..... The yoghurt everyday if you can't buy a probiotic for him will be very good!!!

What a shockingly stark example of the power of proper nutrition. Your kitty is very lucky and very blessed to have such a determined owner.

@everyone---- Thank you so much. I know you all can feel how happy I would have been when my "Shadow" turned into a healthy boy. Trust me, its all because of TCS and its REALLY helpful members who advised me on the smallest of issues ,so as to ensure his timely recovery. I was so worried when I brought him home from a shelter and the vet couldn't draw enough blood for the blood test. But now he is so fluffy and strong that he serves as my personal hot water bottle at night.

I think I have to redo the maths. will take wings to be 40% bones and necks to be 35% and slightly change the quantities. I am feeding him hearts occasionally for the taurine and I put in a small amount of vitamin supplement as well(Dont want to overdo it so I put in only a few drops every other day)
I am using a supplement called Nutri-coat which is meant for pets. It comes in a bottle so I just pour it on the meat after measuring it.what should I try after I run out of this supplement? or should I buy the same again?
No boiling the meat, of course.I just dip the meat in hot water for 30 seconds and drain out the water and freeze it for four days to kill the bacteria.
He doesn't eat raw egg so I have to cook it lightly.
Have started the daily yogurt.
Thanks for the links. Will check them out. :)
And yeah, one more thing. I think that coconut oil is amazing . His coat has become so nice and lustrous ever since I have started massaging him with a little coconut oil. it smells good as well.
