Here in SW Indiana I am about 1000 miles from the epicenter and we are getting her winds and they will be worse tomorrow. Perfect howling wind sound effect for the Halloween Holiday. :lol3:

Over the river and through the woods...
It's...umm...interesting in WVa. Steady winds with gusts, I haven't heard any measurements yet but I would guess gusts up to 60-70 or more. One almost ripped the screen door off and threw me on my butt. Tons of rain/sleet/snow. It was snowing up at work today (we closed at 5:00 instead of 9:00) and it was starting to snow up there. They are now under a blizzard warning for 6 to 12 inches.

The wind got up under the plastic we put over the new addition and ripped it up, so DH and I were out in the freezing rain and wind trying to nail it back up. After 2 minutes my hands were frozen! I tell you, I much prefer hurricanes in tropical regions! At least there you didn't get pelted with ice chips...they hurt!

I'm actually surprised we still have power (hope I didn't just jinx myself). It went out once and we did lose cable and internet for about 1/2 hr, but it's back...for now.

Stay safe everyone!

The wind has dropped off here, so that's good; no more flickering lights! And if I'm reading the local weather reports correctly, Central MA appears to have had the worst it's going to get. Apparently, the combo storm isn't going to affect us here.

This thread and watching the news is making me sick of my stomach.... It's been a while since I heard from Laurie... I can't stand the thought of them in the RV in the middle of that mess - please keep the vibes coming for Laurie, Gary and the kitties :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
Vibes for all of you who are facing this weather :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Yey! Just got a text from Laurie - They are ok, out of power but ok!:clap::clap::clap: They won't fix the power-lines until the wind is below 30mph, so they don't know when they will have it back.
They don't need the generator yet as the freezer will hold its own for 48h if kept closed, and they don't want to freak out the ferals more than they already are :heart3:

Everybody is a "weenie" around here! We have local weatherweenies, TWC weatherweenies, and the technoweenies from Staples, Best Buy, and such. Our MIS guy at work is our MIS-weenie (much to his dismay....I called him that one time and it stuck; everybody calls him that now) . I call everybody weenies of some form! I always have.

I'm hoping that Sandy is all hype, but we're not taking any chances.

Congrats on getting the little girl, Laurie!
Hahahaha!  This is making me laugh so hard!  I stopped watching the weatherweenies at TWC after they had no clue that the state of Mississippi was not in fact called "The Land Mass between New Orleans and Mobile".  You are a weather person and you don't know the name of a state??  Really??   They earned their "weenie" title big time with that goof up!

Sending prayers, vibes and well wishes to everyone affected by this storm
.  Hope you guys stay safe!

We're fine here....so far. It's aout 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning and we are fine. The power hasn't gone out and our freezer is OK (that was a worry here). I can't see our trees as it's still dark outside, so I have no idea what shape they're in. But we're OK.

The wind is still howling and it's still raining.

Safe thoughts going out to everybody in Sandy's path! (I'm glad Laurie is OK, even though she has no power.)

MargeCat, I hope you're doing OK!!!!

It's good to hear some of you have weathered the storm - hopefully others will be checking in and giving status reports.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
My friends who l work for flew out to NY on Saturday for 5 days. Their near Times Square but they had to evacuate the theatre they were in on Sunday evening. Restaurants were still open but they just stayed in the hotel.

I would have been at the hotel bar telling them to line the Cosmopolitans up

Thanks, Winchester! We're fine.  The power only went out for 15 minutes at 4PM yesterday. We had a few flickers later.  However, someone on the street behind has a generator running (I can hear it from my upstairs bathroom, but I can't see who it is).

No more water from that pesky ceiling leak!  It only dripped for about 1/2 hour yesterday afternoon. DH is going to cut out that area of sheetrock this weekend, and will see what's going on. Now, I can move the sofa back, and keep Little Miss happy. It seems she won't lay on her satin princess blankie, which is draped over the sofa back. She's been avoiding it since I had to move the sofa away from the wall! Picky, picky.

DH is not sure if he's going back to work today. He's been trying to call them since 6:30; it seems the phones aren't working there. He doesn't get paid for yesterday (they were closed) nor today, so he's itching to get back on the road!

I'm so happy to hear that everyone is ok, despite some hardships!!!!!!

Glad to hear everyone is OK!

It got a bit scary around here during high tide with many of the roads under water (including the one behind me) and many flooded homes and quite a few electrical poles on fire, but we did OK. This morning I've got a flooded yard, branches down, and a downed trellis. Overall we were very lucky. I found the tree we heard go down last night and luckily it was in the woods and headed away from our house,

Stay safe everyone!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Marge, I'm so glad there was no more leaking!

It seems everyone weathered the storm OK! Mega, massive vibes to all those affected... :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Carolina, Lauren, thanks for sharing updates!

Right now I don't think my texts are going through, we can't make cell calls, and there are no landlines. We're running the generator for the first time - there's very little rain, so we were comfortable the kitties would be OK.

The freezer is running and getting back up to temp, and we're charging everything up. :-} The cell signal booster obviously got blow out of place, so internet depends on which way the wind is blowing. :lol3:

I think we got really lucky - the wind is pretty normal outside, and it's just a light rain now, so who knows when they'll get to the power lines around here, but it is theoretically possible they're working on it today (we're just not in any kind of priority area - no businesses, low population density).

My internet is REALLY slow - it took like 15 minutes for TCS to load, no idea how long it will take for this message to post. :lol3:

There's debris everywhere, but no damage right around us - we haven't been out of the park yet.

Baloo, Smokey, Fog, Dot and Tommy were here for breakfast. I'm sure Khol is OK, she was here for both meals yesterday. Babygirl and Peanutbutter were here yesterday too. Tabby is the only "regular" I haven't seen recently. :cross:

No idea what we're going to do about Itty Bitty at the vet. :sigh:

I miss Wisconsin
All if fine here by Boston. My building is up on a rock, so we are OK, no flooding. My bigest casualty was the fall foliage. It was at peak. Just the right amount of green/yellow/red/brown. It should of lasted till thanksgiving. Well that all came down.  That is small beans, I know compared to others.

My thoughts are with everyone affected by the storm. This is one for the history books. Stay well and let us know what is happening.

Luckily, I got through it (Midtown Manhattan) without losing power, no damage. Howling wind last night around my windows and through my hallways.

I'm feeding a cat down on 30th St. and 9th Ave., so I walked down there this morning, thinking there probably wouldn't be power - and there wasn't. :( So I walked up 11 flights, in a pitch black stairwell - yikes - using my cell phone for a light. Didn't even think to bring a flashlight with me! DOH! Got up to the 11th floor, little Sammy was anxiously awaiting me at the door, and seemed relieved to see me. I played with her and fed her. Talked to her owner later, as I'm thinking of food he's got in his fridge.....no one knows how long the power will be out. He said to take anything I want, and leave the rest. Personally, I would throw stuff out, because it's just going to spoil, but he says to play it by ear. I don't know him that well, so I'll just play it by ear.

I have friends in the outer boroughs and on Long Island who are flooded and have no power, and I have a friend coming up to stay with me for awhile, as she lives in lower Manhattan and has no power. Take care everyone, and vibes being sent to everyone who has is living with the aftermath of this storm. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

That's good to hear! New York got hit so bad - I shudder when I think of all those people in Queens who've lost their homes.

Mega :vibes: for all those dealing with Sandy's aftermath!

Very relieved to see this post!!! NOW I wish for your power to be restored quickly. I know that NJ has power outages of about 65% or more. I just hope they get to your area first. :cross:

Also, wonderful news about the feral babies. They certainly know how to hunker down. :vibes::vibes::vibes: for Tabby. :cross: AND for little Itty Bitty at the vet. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
