Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
My living room ceiling is leaking from THE FLOOR UPSTAIRS?!??! We have no water lines in that area. A big crack just opened up.
Oh no! :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Just wind and rain here so far, nothing too exciting. We're in the northern, western corner of NJ - always seem to be in that "the north and west will get hit worst" part.

The stock exchange was closed today - maybe tomorrow too. NYC closed the Holland and Lincoln tunnels at 2:00pm today.

Now landfall isn't expected until late tonight/ early tomorrow morning.

Yesterday at the supermarket:

OMG! Let us know what happens!
It seems to have stopped.  I think it must be rain that's being driven in under the siding or some weak point on the outside wall or under the eaves of the house. We can't find any wetness on the floor under the upstairs window, etc.  I will keep plastic bins (dumb me filled all of our buckets with water for toilet flushing earlier!) under the leak. I did move the sofa!  The funny thing was that I had been lounging, watching TV, and admiring how nice the room looked. I had tidied up the sewing mess from last week, and cleaned--and the room looked so nice (for once). Oh well!

I am worried about it, though.  The "real" storm is due to hit us in about 4 hours, with much, much heavier rain and wind.   We also had our first, very brief, power surge, but the new whole-house surge protector we installed back in the summer kicked in, so we have power again.

Stay safe, all!

Where my cats are
We are on vacation right now so watching a lot of news stuff. The eye will pass about 45-75 minute drive from my house. I'm not sure what it is mile wise. My cats are at my mothers house. Our neighbors are watching our home. Im glad not to be experiencing first hand; but also wishing I could see my home in a way.

The wind is picking up. I live on the 23rd floor, west Midtown Manhattan, and face east, so those gusts of wind are coming right at me. And my door is rattling, and the wind is whistling down the hallway - creepy!

And now, a giant crane has collapsed 65-stories up on a construction site. :( All these cranes in the city freak me out anyway, and I was just thinking yesterday, "What happens to those in a hurricane?" I can look out my window and see this, actually. Yikes. No one was hurt, as it didn't fall, but it's dangling above the street. They've blocked traffic and pedestrians. But how are they going to get it down?

Geez. Be safe, everyone.

I am minutes frm Philly and the gusts are really picking up. It was windy but very even all day.  Lights flickered but ok so far.  cats are REALLY talkative.  One outside cat came in the other refuses and she has a high tolerance(shes under the overhang chilling out on the chair, he is hiding from my dog on the cabinets.

Was amazing to see the water out of stock at BJ's and also the eggs at a few stores.

If anyone is interested in a local paper go to APP.com (asbury park press serves Monmouth and Ocean counties-east coast NJ  They have user submitted photos.

I'm in Central MA. It's been raining since yesterday here and the wind right now is enough to get noticed, but not crazy wild yet. Unfortunately, the lights started flickering about half an hour ago, so I may lose electricity before the storm even gets here. *sigh*

I'm stocked up on water, bread, TP, protein bars, batteries, ice, apple pie and beer, so I should be good to go whatever happens.
And, naturally, I have enough meat already bagged and frozen to last the kitties several weeks, so they're all set.

Speaking of which, they were all running around and clustering near me earlier, but they're all zonked out in the living room now. Guess they're not all that worried!

I'll admit that until today, I wasn't taking this thing very seriously; too many over-hyped storms in the past, you know? But after seeing some of the updates this afternoon, I stopped rolling my eyes at the forecasters. The hurricane hasn't yet landed or combined with those other two fronts and it's already caused huge swaths of damage and killed electricity for nearly a million folks.

You hang in there, Karen!

They showed that on the news over here - that's really scary! I doubt they can get it down. There was a report on CNN that power company workers can't do anything if winds are more than 35 m.p.h.. That crane is so high up that they'll probably have to wait until the storm is over.

Back in my student days we rented a summer house in Ocean City, NJ. I saw it on the news this evening - the water is already over the porch and right up to the front door.

Stay safe, everybody! :vibes::vibes::vibes:

It wasn't so bad here.  A lot of tidal flooding, roads in the area were closed and opened as the tides came and went.  Much better now.

The kid had today off from school.  Did a whole lot of nothing.  We watched movies, I made soup and some cookies.  My oldest is at college in Lynchburg VA- they've gotten a little bit of wind and rain.  She got miffed b/c everyone here got the day off of school, but she had to go to class
The school wound up cancelling all afternoon/evening activites and she won't have class tomorrow morning.

Told her I'd send her some of the cookies we made today- she said "yay!"

2 hour delay for all of the local schools here.  I guess they're going to make sure everything is ok tonight.  It should be, the wind's kind of picked up a little, it was supposed to when the storm came on shore up north.

Our power went of for only 15 minutes at 4 PM.  So far, so good.

The ceiling is not leaking right now.  I'm putting a tarp under the bins, just in case it does something when we're asleep.

The storm made landfall in NJ about 45 mintues ago.  Not sure when it will hit here (we're NW of NJ, near Philly). The various branches of the Brandywine Creek are at flood stage. (There are several around us.)

DH went out around 4:15 to go to the McDonald's down the hill; they were closed. He did find a pizza place that was open, and brought back pizza, fries, a burger (for him) and onion rings! (I ate the onion rings for dinner.)  He said the roads were very bad, and much debris was on them.

Okay, here so far. Wind and rain. Supposed to worsen later tonight and power outage is predicted. My county has declared state of emergency, all roads closed.

High tide in 45 minutes and the water is rising. Ugh. Lots of streets under water and lots of evacuations going on right now. I keep checking my backyard to see if the stream behind me is overflowing and headed my way.
