Just about everybody in the eastern U.S., I'd think. "Sandy" has been downgraded for now, but still sounds really bad.
"Super storm" Sandy heads toward U.S. northeast coast
Hurricane Sandy was downgraded on Saturday morning but remained highly menacing as it pulled away from the Bahamas, making a slow path toward the U.S. northeast coast where it threatens to become one of the worst storms in decades.

The late-season storm has been dubbed "Frankenstorm" by some weather watchers because it will combine elements of a tropical cyclone and a winter storm and is forecast to reach the U.S. coast close to Halloween.

We are bracing for it. Our county was devastated last year by Irene. We don't need a repeat. Our Homecoming service was planned for tomorrow at church so that is put off for a week. We may have to cancel church service tomorrow because of flooding in some areas. Our forecast is for rain and flooding, some wind. Stay safe everyone.

Yup. Hurricane headed our way. I'm taking care of a guy's cat starting Sunday, for a week, and he e-mailed me and seemed worried, but I have good rainboots and can pretty much slog through anything, but I told him if it looks really bad for Tuesday, I'll just leave extra for her Monday night.

It looks like everyone up north is going to get it worse than we are on the VA coast.

The kid wants a day off from school LOL.  Hey- I'd be happy for that, it would mean I wouldn't have to drive her into orchestra practice, the school she rehearses at is a 30 minute drive one way.   Because if the schools close they don't have rehersal.    And I've BTDT once already this year in the pouring rain (not a fun night for either of us).

I'm hoping we don't get too much rain.  The garage floods when we get too much rain.. It's not like it gets tons of water in there- maybe an inch or so in spots.  But it makes a mess, and the thought of having to clean it up does not thrill me.  And we've got a roof that's already on its last legs, hoping we won't leak too much.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Irene was so very strange. The wind arrived long before the rain. We went outside and heard repeated "gunshots." It was trees snapping. Over 100 trees came down in the RV park alone. It was nuts.

We ran errands yesterday. We're charging batteries (that run the 12V system in the RV - that runs the lights and a few other things), chlorinating the lines, filling the fresh water tank (though the park now has a generator on the well, so we shouldn't be without water even if we're without power). We've got everything battened down.... still need to rake the leaves. :lol3:

We have a generator in the RV, but hate using it, because some of the ferals live under the RV, or use it for protection. We cleaned up the shelters under there (and outside), put in fresh straw, and put up board insulation all along the sides so wind and rain won't whip through there. The fridge/freezer inside runs on propane, so we're good to go there if the power is out for weeks again. :cross:

We tried to get a small generator for the outside freezer, but didn't think to go line up at the stores before they even opened. :doh3:

Almost most importantly, Gary tied twine to the trap trigger this morning, and he finally managed to trap the little kitty that turned up here Tuesday afternoon. She's at the vet. If the foster network can't take her, at least she's safe for the duration of the storm. She's just 10 weeks old! (No sign of momma or other siblings. How many want to place bets they turn up Monday or Tuesday? ).

From the way our local weatherweenies are talking, Sandy is to come in and come right up through to PA's central Susquehanna Valley and stall. I live smack dab, right in the central Susquehanna Valley.....yay me! We doubt we'll get any snow, but the winds and rains are going to be really bad. And with anywhere from 3-6 inches of rain (and local downpours of as much as 10 inches), we can be very glad that it's not snow. We're more worried about our trees at this point than anything else. Well, that and power outages....that could get ugly.

Stay safe everyone!

We are! On top of it, I spent the day finishing an 18C. gown to wear to the big Halloween party tonight, and doing all cleaning (including laundry) that used electricity. I did buy some supplies at lunchtime yesterday. We have tons of litter, canned cat food, and canned human food.  We really should bring in more firewood before it rains.

Oh, and I'm supposed to have people over on Wednesday night (I hope I can make food!) AND houseguests arriving on Friday!  Hey, what's 4-8" of rain and high winds to a hostess?
  Tent-ertaining, anyone?

Stay safe, everyone.

From the way our local weatherweenies .......
Ha! That made me laugh!! "weatherweenies". Hee-hee. The local weatherweenies here in NYC are going absolutely nuts. Lonnie Quinn, the local CBS guy, is practically jumping out of his skin..... very hyper. This really gives them all something to do!! :lol3:

The media coverage is sort of making me snort, though. It's like it's the end of the world. Usually when they get all hyped up like this, it turns out to be heavy-duty over-reacting. This time, though, it may live up to the warnings.

I don't mean to make light of the situation, and, indeed, everyone stay safe...... and dry.

My sister and I aren't too worried about it. I guess since we 'be been been through so many hurricanes her in NC, I think we 've become rather blase about them. Also we 'be found that the local forecasters always make them sound way worse than they are.

Everybody is a "weenie" around here! We have local weatherweenies, TWC weatherweenies, and the technoweenies from Staples, Best Buy, and such. Our MIS guy at work is our MIS-weenie (much to his dismay....I called him that one time and it stuck; everybody calls him that now) . I call everybody weenies of some form! I always have.

I'm hoping that Sandy is all hype, but we're not taking any chances.

Congrats on getting the little girl, Laurie!

Now, 5-10 inches of rain!  Instead of making that gown, I should've built an ark!

Stay safe, everyone.

The wind is already kicking up here in SE PA. Nothing bad yet, but definitely different from a couple of hours ago.
