Hi. I'm new guy. I married into this cat. haha Was my wife's cat first. Her name is "Kitty" She's a Maincoon.. Her mother was wild I guess.

Long story short though- I was a cat hater, up until when I was dating my wife, Her cat was very difficult to get close to (Kitty- pic below). I not only worked my way into getting my wife's cat to love me just as much, but I ended up learning so much about cats- and even converted into a completely dominant cat person. lol Love dem kittys. We want to get another cat.

How do I sum her up...She is only sweet around Natalie (my wife) and I. She hates company. I think she's a paranoid cat personally. She is always moving with caution it's hilarious. Most the noise she does is made up of chirping. lol  - and NO it's not because she sees birds- she just is a chirper. lol it's funny actually.

Some occasional early mornings or nights, she will run around like crazy- stop, then look around and start playfully meowing- and start all over. This is a rare site only Natalie and I see now and then. Overall she does her own thing though throughout the day.

Nice to hear another guy coming to his senses.  I don't see how anybody can hate cats.

Lots of cats make that chirping noise.  It is usually called "Trilling"

She is trying to get you to play with her.  She wants you to chase her (gently and slowly at first) so she can turn around and chase you.  This is a game S&S (Sugar and Spice) like to play with me, usually after they have eaten their supper.

Get some interactive toys, Da Bird, a feather teaser, even just a piece of string with a ball of paper tied on the end to pull around (by you).  Just don't let her chew the string in two.  Let her catch the toy occasionally so she doesn't get frustrated and quit.

Finally, getting her a kitty playmate is a good idea.  Find threads on here that tell what to look for, how to introduce a new cat to the present one and what equipment you will have to buy - like another litter box.  Soon you will find out that 2 cats are 3 times as much fun.  I have 5.

Thanks everybody. lol I've been working at home a lot lately and found my way onto this cat site. Since I've known "Kitty" she has really evolved. She wasn't playful with anyone- at all. Not even my wife...In fact she was quite crazy...(bi polar ish more like) We recently moved and our cat is a lot more sweet and friendly. Our old place had no carpet- except in our really crowded bedroom(but it was old). This new place we moved into has tall ceilings, plenty of NEW carpet, and wide open space. She really loves it here.

Kitty just recently discovered a catheter... lol (not used of course). It's her favorite thing. She doesn't like normal toys from the store (and obviously I haven't tried them all). She'll play with my wife's hair ties/bands, rubber bands, paper balls. We have a laser too of course.

And yes we're excited to get her a companion. At first I know she'll get very hissy about it, but I also know she'll get used to it. She's lived with other dogs. Nice dogs though, not mean... the dogs were very scared of her. Kitty would go from licking the dogs face to slashing it LOL yeah....

Hi & Welcome to TCS!  What a beautiful girl you have there! "I'm glad she converted you." LOL  Sounds like she loves all the new space to run & play in when she has the "kitty crazies."

Be careful about letting her play with the hair ties. If swallowed, can cause an obstruction & could be VERY dangerous if gets down into her intestines. There is a recent thread on here

where someones cat did eat one. I'd keep them put away somewhere she can't get them. just to be safe.
Also, another tip, (in case you didn't know). If you get a new cat, there is

a whole process to go through to introduce them slowly & safely. It will also help the new kitty to not be overwhelmed by her new environment, & or your girl getting territorial.

You also want a vet visit to have any new kitty checked out, de-wormed etc.. before introducing them. There are threads here about that too, with plenty of help from members that have been there.

Feel free to always ask if you have any questions. We have a great group here!

All my cats do this too - the chase-me-now-run-away-so-I-can-chase-you thing.

They like it when I stalk/ambush them from around corners.

Very exciting. I appreciate all your guys' help!

I will keep the hair ties away! Thanks for the advice.

And I will try the "catch me if you can" on my cat.

I have another question... What is the best "water bowl fountain" brand... or type...?? My wife and I are willing to pay costly as long as we get a good one that "works".

again this has been fun. I love learning more about cats- especially my own. Thanks again for the friendlies.
