 First a little back story:

A stranger had come into my work asking for help (I'm a dog groomer) a week and a half ago because they had apparently found a newborn kitten at their own workplace alone and in a box or something and it was the closest thing on a Sunday that was open. They decided that it was too much for them so I took him in. He still had the umbilical cord attached. Took him to the vet last weekend and all seems well so far. He is active, vocal, eats a lot and has a good weight(and is growing rapidly). His eyes are now open. He does have some loose stool that was worse when I took him to the vet (yellow in color), and they tested him for parasites, which came back negative, and dismissed that there was anything wrong with him and said that it was likely just the formula that was causing it. Thats the only issue I had until today.

Anyway, I woke up to feed him and as I was I noticed he has a red-ish discoloration in the iris part of his eye. Its a little circle that looks a lot like when a human gets a blood blister in their eye. He has almost clawed himself in the eye a few times when doing the kneading thing, which I suspected is what he did but there are no visible abrasions, no discharge, no crusties, nothing unusual except for that red spot. Maybe he strained himself a little and it really is just a blood blister? I was wondering if anyone else had seen this happen before and how concerned I should be since there is 0 signs of any sort of infection so far. Vets not open yet and I couldnt find anything about it online.  Thank you to anyone that can help!

TL; DR : Kitten has red spot on eye, no sign of infection at all. What is it?

My guess it is not dangerous as you describe it, but I would  phone a vet.

Good luck!

Without seeing a picture (and I don't even think that would help as I am not a vet or an opthamologist) my first assumption would be the same as yours: that either he accidentally caught himself in the eye or he strained too hard and popped a blood vessel.

I agree with StefanZ that I would probably call a vet just to be on the safe side, but so long as his activity level is normal, he's eating, and isn't losing weight then I would probably assume that he is fine. If any of those things change, or if he develops even more loose stool or starts vomiting you will want him to be seen right away.

Thank you for rescuing this little guy and doing such a great job of caring for him. He wouldn't have survived without you! Does he have a name? Are you keeping him? We love pictures of newborns!

Update: Thanks for the replies, it seems to have gone away and the vet said to just call back if it started sticking closed or had any sort of infected look to it.  But none of that ever happened so I think that yes it was just a blood vessels.

Here are some pictures of him as requested, we decided to name him Elvis. :)

The first day:

These two he is about one week old:

He is now a little over 2 weeks old, havent pulled new pictures off the camera yet.
