Azlan was first found by Homefinders Animal Rescue in Vancouver in 2010 on the street, matted and starving. Last year I had been contemplating trying to find a place that would allow pets so I went to petfinder.com to see what other agencies than the SPCA were out there. I have nothing against the SPCA, just wanted my kitty options open.

Azlan was so adorable, and he got my attention immediately but he came with problems that had kept him from being adoped. He was about 10 years old, hyperthyroid and had only one eye. It was always my intention to adopt a senior cat. My only misgiving was the thyroid condition as I wasn't sure what the medical costs would be like.

Fast forward to May this year when I start the process of looking for a condo to buy. The biggest requirement I had was it had to allow cats. What's the point of buying a place if I couldn't? Once I had the place and before I moved in, I enquired to Homefinders if they would consider Azlan being fostered, as the majority of thier cats are. This was not a problem and usually they take care of all the costs, but I made the offer to take care of food, litter and love and they would continue the vet support.

As many of you know, getting a cat to take a pill is a daunting task, and Azlan was no different. He wized up quick to them being hidden in treats. Often when I thought he swallowed it I would find a pill on my bed two days later. As it turned out my consolidation loan was going to be paid off earlier than expected I got a credit line from the bank so I could pay for his thyroid treatment.

Azlan came home from Northwest Nuclear Medicine yesterday and he was very happy to see me, greeted me with much face nudging. The day I dropped him off to be treated I signed the papers to officially adopt him. This little guy (well little in relation to me, he's a really big kitty) just burrowed his way into my heart, being the ultra affectionate kitty I haven't been able to have for 17 years.

I can't imagine my life without him

So adorable! He looks like a tiger! It's wonderful how amazing our pets make us feel. Happy you finally got him.
