Has anyone ever tried Lotus?  Is it good?  It doesn't have guar gum or carrageen.  Please share your experiences before I order it!

Hmmm, lets say I have some questions on their ingredients, also, who is manufacturing in California?

These are ingredients I have never seen before and have questions about:

Natural Chicken Liver Flavor, Agar-Agar,  Asparagus, Cranberries, Blueberries, Mussel, Clams, Olive Oil,  Sea Salt,

Get your kitty Nature's variety Rabbit, if she is a wet eater I think she would love it, your wallet wont

My cats also eat nature's variety rabbit.  They love it.  I am looking for varieties of canned food and came across.  So Lotus is a questionable brand?

I really don't hear many people having talking about this brand for some reason.

Yes my kitty is a wet only, and keeping her a rotation of what she likes prevents rejected cans.

Like she loved Merk, then one day turned her nose (she knew after 12 hours I would cave and throw it out).  She has never done this with NV and she ate NV Chicken as often as every other day.

What sparks my interest in Lotus is that it seems they make their own cans (almost no companies make their cans, not sure about NV though).

I see ingredients I dont recognize and never heard of wet food made in Calfornia.

Also I forgot to mention, there is no added taurine in the ingredients list. I am sure this is a mistake, its in the analysis, and in their FAQ they explain to dog owners why they add creatine to dog food.

I am 99% sure my botique pet store has this brand, but like most it is dog only.

If they got the cat I will taste test it on Korina.

Guys, what do you think about canned cat food? Is it safe? In their reviews  many owners say they feed cats with canned food, but is it safe? Please advise!

Lotus seems decent. Agar-agar is a gelatinizing agent, like carageenan and guar gum. I don't know if there are any controversies about it, though. Mussels and clams have a lot of taurine, so that's probably why they add them and don't have taurine on the ingredient list. Almost all food has some salt added, so adding sea salt is no different. And olive oil is probably added for the fat. All the fruits and veggies could be concerning, but I don't know what percentage of the food they make up. You could contact the company to ask.

Excellent points Willowy, especially the whole fruit thing.

I think most people would be suprised that in your cats wet, and alot of human products (think yogi herbal tee, and some fancy vitamins)  fruit extracts are added in, but at miniscule ammounts.

Obviously its marketing, people see stuff that is healthy, and most humans dont consume.  Personally I think its so small its prob irrelevant.

With two exceptions off the top of my head, Merick Thanksgiving day dinner has half cranberies (I usually would pull that out),  NV Instinct has large carots, if I try to yank those types of things, I know my cat doesnt want them, but eventually they come into her mouth.

Also, I know this is broad, but I try to avoid fish, I know cats like the smell, but I find it weird as very few felines go fishing, let alone crabbing or deshelling clams.

Maybe domestics have evolved for seafood?

My main quest is to find wet food with transparancy of the manufacturer.  I would love for a canned company to come out and say "We make our wet food, we have our ingredients audited, we have a facility where we observe animals on our diet humanely."

The closest is Natures Variety, they come clean on some ingredients (they admit rabbit from china), however they never spell out where the wet is made.

The only company that fits this bill is Evangers, and I rarely hear them get brought up.

I now feed Bravo Complete Raw burgers/patties, but will still do canned maybe once a week, if I forget to take a pattie out & put in the fridge for thawing the night before, or just want to offer him a diff. flavor once/week. (If I buy Turkey patties, I will buy a few cans of beef & liver by nature, If I buy Beef patties, I will get some Canned Turkey BTG, or turkey & liver by nature).

I use by nature & Before the Grain. Both very good & 95-96% meat." Not by products." Real meat!  (Tried the Merrick cowboy cookout once & gave him diarrhea. had way to many fruits & veggies!!)

Both of those brands are less expensive than the Natures Variety.

I'm tempted to try Lotus, but I am worried they might not like it.  Last month I bought Addiction rabbit and they don't like it at all, and I don't know what to do with 20+ cans.

Has anyone tried Lotus?  I wonder if it tastes good.

Can you not just buy one can to try it?

I got the cat Addiction Rabbit, as a cheaper alternative to NV rabbit cans (1.80 vs 2.40),  she liked it, only rejected it once or twice.

Only thing weird is the smell, and different look than NV.   It almost smells porky, cant pin point it.

My new kittens arriving tonight!!!  were already started on raw, mixed with friskies.

They were fed Bravo Beef blend.  I will continue this mix with my rotation cans.

Angelsmommy, the stores around my place don't have addiction rabbit or lotus, I have to order online, and they all come in cases.

Korina, do you see orange oil on the surface when you open the can?  It looks kinda weird to me because I haven't seen that in other brands of canned food.

I know rabbit can have oil, but why is it orange?   I will try again tomorrow.   It really smells so differently from NV rabbit.

That's why I also liked the nt nature & Before the Grain. They were less that NV. They are about 1.49-1.59/can

That's to bad you can't buy single cans to try first.

Space1101:  No I did not notice anything like oil.  Check teh ingredients, if there is some type of oil maybe it seperated or didnt mix well.

Throw it out open a new can, if same, return if you can, if not find a dog and feed.

What I thought it smelled like was pork.  (ironically NV uses pork liver now)

But I must admit, the chicken doesnt smell a whole lot like it.

But the lamb, let me tell you my parents are greek immigrants, we cook something with lamb at least twice a month, rotisseries etc.

I let them take a big wiff, didnt remind them of lamb either.  Maybe liver is overpowering (and I have tried a bit of liver once in my life)

But yea case ordering at stores sucks (my store does it too).  I didnt think my cat liked the addiction either.  Lucky my brother has a pit bull and we just dump kitties rejects in his mouth.

Angel: ha, I was offering to mail you a few cans.  My cat randomly rejects it, so Im not so concerned.

As far as by nature and BG they dont have rabbit but thats fine.  My older cat ate merrick for a while, but ended up rejecting it.  I got a can of the BG when it came out and she rejected that too.

With my new kittens, the sky is the limit for varieties.

The main thing i look for in any pet food is transparancy, and knowing who produces it.

I am pretty sure Merrick produces their own.

And Evangers certainly produces their own (and certified kosher, love it!)

So, while looking on chewy.com (google lists first), I noticed some other rabbits, some 95% some 100% (I rotate so I dont worry about 100%)

Oooooh, got it. no, thanks but Angel is doing great on the Bravo patties & an occasional can of by nature. I can't give him a lot of different stuff, or he has problems. The Merrick's Cowboy Cookout is what gave him the diarrhea. It had way to many veggies & fruit. He had it for 30 days!!!!  Even after we switched to something else. Gotta keep it simple for his tummy.
BUT, Thank you for offering, that was nice of you.

Hey no problem, you know these companies should be willing to send you a can, wont hurt to try asking.

I hope my new kittens dont have funny stomachs, I always try to rotate wet, and mix dry brands.

Dry mixing is easy, for wet, the rotation was forced as my cat would get tired of a can, she lost her taste for merrick, so now i feed it to her once a month.

I didnt catch you fed bravo too.  I am supposed to give(kittens) them Bravo beef.  I bought it last night and threw a burger in the fridge(they dont sell chubs at my store).

I had my brother stop in my house to check on the babies, he touch it and thinks it has defrosted.

Going to chop it up and freeze 3/4 of it in portion bags.

The breeder said she added a ping pong ball size (lets say 1-2 tbps) to a 1/4 can of friskies (not sure if once or twice a day), along with free feed kibble for kittens.

I hope to have them eating the raw strait, and wet food strait, if I could do wet in morning and raw at night, I would be set.

Sounds good. Good luck! I Hope they like it. I was alternating boxes of beef & turkey. Angel loves the beef so much, the last 3 boxes I have bought were beef! I just bought another one last night.

The last box of turkey he had, he started loosing interest. As long as he likes the beef, I'm gonna stick w/ that for now. I have a couple of cans of by nature turkey & liver to offer a different choice, or if I forget to take out a burger the night before. I did that this week once, so he had turkey for breakfast today.
