I rescued this cat 2 months ago and he has been inside. He was someones cat I assume as he had collars on him but he never went home and was starving. I have noticed a spec of cat acne which the vet said she had but suggested nothing to help it. Is a little hydrogen peroxide alright to use? Will it go away ?? by itself.

I think it's important to figure out why he's getting it so you can prevent it from recurring once it's treated. My cat got it from the plastic food dishes I used to use, which turns out to be a very common cause of feline acne. His went away with minimal help from me, and he hasn't had it again since switching them to stainless steel bowls.

Be sure you're using stainless steel or ceramic dishes for both food and water.  Plastic dishes can scratch and develop bacteria in the scratches.  This can cause the acne.  To treat it, you can use Stridex pads.  Just scrub twice a day.

Its weird when I got him he had had some type of flea collar on which I removed. I didn't notice any of this till he was kept inside. I have always used stainless steel plates. Perhaps its stress form the older cat though they seem to get along. I wonder if its a side affect from the flea collar as he still itches when there is nothing there and the vet checked him out. He is a very happy cat though!!

I had a problem with feline acne last summer with four of my six after a diet change. There are a few reasons why a cat would get feline acne. It could be environmental allergies too, but most likely it is diet related. The body is using those sebaceous glands to purge waste from the body. Sounds funny, I know. :lol3: But the sebaceous glands are over acting for some reason or another and that is what causes the pores to clog and get dirty. I used Hibiclens daily http://www.hibiclens.com/ You can get it at any pharmacy and it is inexpensive. Wash the chin once daily with this product and gently remove the dirt. You can use Hydrogen Peroxide but it can be drying and irritating. Then I applied an ointment called Mupirocin http://www.vetrxdirect.com/product/view/mupirocin I bought it from my vet. You can also use Colloidal Silver. I use this one. It has SO many other great uses that it was worth buying. and dab it on the chin after you wash. One of my cats acne got so severe it turned into an deep skin/pore infection and needed antibiotics. It did clear after I changed diets and have not had a problem since. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for your kitty.

That makes a lot of sense. Who knows where he was and what crap he was eating . Its more like a scab or two on his chin that looks dark and perhaps near /in his whiskers on one side. its like anything else "body cleansing". I'll keep an eye on it and apply something

My white cat had this problem. What worked for me was to apply witch hazel to the acne. I did this for a few days, which cleared up the problem. Then I read that metal bowls were better. It important to wash the bowls EVERY DAY. This has kept the problem from recurring.

My vet recommended using Stridex pads to scrub my cat's chin with. It worked in a short time.

Angel used to have a little of this as well. Once i switched to ceramic bowls a couple of years ago, it got much better. He hardly ever gets them anymore. I used some peroxide on a cotton round once a day. That worked pretty good, but Colloidal Silver is the best, & the quickest!  I would think the Stridex pads would be more harsh that just peroxide though.

The Colloidal Silver is great for so many things & safe.
