my cat (missy) is 63 days pregnant and she's had her milk for about a week now but she's not showing any signs of nesting or anything! When will they be ready??!?!!?!?!? arghhhh im soo excited but nervous as she's only 11 months old and is tiny. this is her first litter and im scared she's going to have complications. when will they be ready and what can i do to encourage the labour - she has a very large cage that she sleeps in only when we put her in there but she kinda seems to like it! what can i do and when will they be here - please help! - chelsea

Some cats don't show full blown signs of labor, my cat Emry surprised me, I knew what to typically watch for (pacing, nesting,  breaking water ect) and she had none of that.

infact it surprised me when I went into the downstairs bathroom and there in the towl cabinet were the kittens, only after she had had them did I realize she was in labor hours before (she would walk a few feet and then sit, shift on her hauches, get up walk some more, sit ect.) she wasn't breathing heavy or any of that typical stuff.

11 months is a bit too young to be having a litter, but she should be ok, and shouldn't need much help, don't force yourself on her if she doesn't seem to want you around, as it can stress her. cats have been giving birth on their own for millions of years, afterall

I had a farm cat once, who i swear was surprised by her first litter because she had them out in the middle of the field, in a soggy cardboard box!

if she seems to like being in her cage, then that might be where she's chosen to have them, but again that's no garuntee, she'll want somewhere that is quiet, warm and dark, and relatively protected.

If you know what day your first cat mated, there's no need to worry until day 70.  65 days is the average from first mating to deliver but kittens can come a little early or late and it's perfectly normal.

Don't let her out after delivery, some cats get pregnant again very quickly and you end up with them on a treadmill of aways having kittens they are feeding (and you are feeding and caring for and having to find homes for) and her beeing too far on to neuter.

A smaller litter will often run closer to 70 days, shouldn't be too much longer if her milk is in.  We don't count until the second day of mating.

Do make sure you're present for the birth, not only to count placentas (a retained placenta will cause infection), make sure all kittens are born properly and breathing quickly, and that the cords are done. Being young and small she may have some problems.

Cats may have been giving birth for thousands of years, but thousands of kittens and cats also die during birthing.

You can get her and the litter spayed/neutered at around 10 weeks, before the kittens are rehomed at 12 weeks.

she had 1 baby this morning at 10:30am but after that showed no more signs of labour and judging but the size of her belly she still had a few to go! it was 2:30 and still nothing so we took her to the vets because we were worried that 1 may have become lodged in her pelvic region. the vet said nothing was wrong and that her baby was healthy but she had stopped labour. they proceeded to give her a shot to induce labour and at 4 o'clock we brought her home then at 4:30 she had a second 1. the vet said judging by what he'd felt she still had  3-4 left so now its a waiting game :/

Aww hooray for healthy babies! The waiting game must be agonizing. Best of luck that the last little ones come quickly so that mama, babies and you can get some much needed rest :rbheart:
