I just had to make a very difficult decision today. My Katie girl has been ill for about a month. She was 18. She started really going downhill about a week ago although I could see her life draining everyday. I had to put her down this morning and I am so missing her. Its been hard looking at her bed and other things she had. I know it will get easier with time but all i do is cry.

I'm so very sorry!  We had to make that decision a few years ago and it was one of the most difficult, but loving, decisions we made.

Sorry for your loss. I can relate. My wife and I had to put our first cat to sleep, a lynx point siamese female named Woodstock who chose my wife as her favorite. She was with us for 19 years, 6 months and 6 days.

Our present cat, Tiger, a male manx who chose me as his favorite, is now 15 years old. I cherish everyday I have with him. I dread the day I have to put him to sleep.

I am so sorry about your sweet Katie, I wish I had some words of wisdom that would make you feel better. Just remember it was the kindest, most selfless you could have done, as you helped her on journey.

I had to make the same ha decision several years ago with me dear Fred, he was a tiny kitten when allolwed hiself to be rescued from a tree. He was my baby for 18 years.

Thank you all for your kind words! It helps having a site like this to share your feelings. I feel so drained today. The final few days she would get in bed with me, wrap herself around my head and lick me. I knew she knew her time was ending as this was not typical behavior for her.

I'm so sorry for you, it's always the hardest of times... The only comfort is to think we gave them a good life and we could make their ending smoother.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.
I lost my sweet girl, also named Katie, in June after 19 years together. I'm sure your Katie knew how much she was loved. Bless you for giving a wonderful life.

My condolences. Eighteen years is a long time to share your life with another being, so you must be missing her terribly. RIP, Katie,
