So it figures, as soon as I find a food I like and my cats seem to be doing well on....the store stops carrying it.

My 3 (two 6 years old siblings and my kitten who is 6 months) have been on Orijen since I got my youngest and it seemed to go over well. However yesterday I went to the shop I always go to and they were out, apparently Orijen wasn't selling so they stopped carrying it. I now have a few options but I am really unsure which one to go with long term. I picked up EVO for now but disturbingly my cats seem to get really thirsty after eating it and I am concerned. I want to stay grain free and high quality, so I need advice. They carry virtually everything else, so if its good suggest it and I will bet they have it.

P.S Anyone heard of Earthborn? That seems to be what the store replaced Orijen with

EVO and Wellness Core have higher protein content than most other dry foods. The ingredients are higher quality too. If they are thirsty you could add canned food to their diet. I haven't tried Earthborn dry, but their canned food is good quality.

I like Earthborn. You can also try Innova Prime if they have it.

But I also think that all cats should have at least half of their diet as wet food so if you can fit some of that in it would be good, too :D.

A food I learned about here, and is not mentioned enough is Costco Kirkland dry.

Its rebagged Diamond pet food (Royal Canin, Chicken Soup etc).

It is quality, I think it has rice.

Same for dogs.

Great food to transition the anti crowd to good food, it looks cheap, doesnt have a brand name.

I guess if I suggest that, I might as well suggest Chicken Soup brand dry (my cat loves the wet).

What about mail-ordering the Orijen?  There are a ton of places out there that deliver - then you wouldn't have to change. Just a thought...

Champion, the company that makes Orijen & Acana, had a fire in one of their kitchens so production is really slowed down right now and some distributors are having a hard time getting it in. So, for the moment, even ordering it elsewhere might be difficult.

My first thoughts were Wellness Core, Natures Variety Instinct, and Fromm Surf & Turf.

Thanks for this info! I'll make sure I have enough for a while too...

I've heard good things about a brand called Young Again and this link http://www.naturalcatcareblog.com/2011/08/best-dry-cat-foods-so-far/ in general lists the best the types of dry food. Nature's variety is listed on that website too. I currently feed their instinct canned brand because it seems to have a very good ingredient list and I'm sure their dry food is good quality as far as dry food goes. Good luck to finding a new food that your cats and you approve of.
