At my grocery store there is a cat chow urinary ph reduction formula. Anyone used this? Does it work as well as the rx dry? I know it's a terrible dry food, but the ingredients seem similar to the rx dry.
Hmm, what brand of RX dry? If you want to go with a pH reduction food, I would go with the prescription brand over the Purina Cat Chow. Most of the time Purina is just using marketing techniques, it probably would not work as well or have the same results.
The real difference between Rx bladder health foods and non-prescription urinary foods is that the Rx foods are designed to target a neutral bladder pH, and non-prescription Rx foods simply provide an acidifier to make the urine pH lower. The problem with the last approach is that because they're not targeting a specific pH, the urine can become TOO acidic, and then calcium oxalate crystals/stones can become a problem.
Right now, my cat's urine has a ph of 8, could I use the non-RX brand for a short time (2 weeks) to get his ph down, while I get him to eat more wet. He is terribly picky.
