So I just noticed that my cat has scabs on her body.  She is very itchy too.  Been to the vet and they said its probably due to fleas.  I put her on a duck diet from blue buffelo with no grain but that does not seem to help.  She has been on it for 3 weeks and i don't see a difference.  i just put frontline on yesterday so I will see if that helps.  Any suggestions on what it could be or what i can give her or put on the skin to help the scabs.  Thanks

If the scabs are easily seen and easy to get to, you could get some hydrocortisone cream 1%. I know Walmart and Family Dollar both carry it as I have gotten it at both places before for skin rashes. It stops itching and helps to heal. I have used it on cats before and when my babies had diaper rash.  :) It only cost a few dollars too in generic form.

If your cat has flea allergy it only takes one bit to set the scabbing off again, so you need to make sure your house is flea-free.  And if it is flea allergy, changing her food won't make any difference.

A steroid shot from the vet is often the quickest way to settle the skin, so long as the fleas have been dealt with, and one application of Frontline will only help for a short time - if your cat has fleas so does your house, along with lots of eggs (which drop off), larvae and pupae.  Fleas on your cat are but the tip of the iceberg.

I agree with the steroid shot. My cat has flea allergies and a few days after the shot she is healed and feeling better . At my vet is costs around $30 so its not too bad. And of course flea prevention is a must after that.

Yea supposedly my female cat is dealing with the same issue. The little scabs down her back and the intense itching. I haven't seen a single flea on any of my animals but I am going the flea med route just to see. As to changing the food, if it is a flea allergy that won't do any good. I have done the steroid injection route before, and I have to admit, it does work wonders. My cat stops scratching and the scabs heal within a few days, but I don't like the side effects it gives and long term it isn't good especially when it only gives my cat 2-3 weeks of relief  when it used to only be needed once or twice a year. So now we are going to try oral prednisone on a really low dose and the flea meds. I also bath my cat in a gentle oatmeal shampoo once a week. That really does seem to help for a few days  but i have to keep up on it.  I do use a rx hydrocortisone spray on certain areas as needed as well. Another thing that I do is give fish oil. It seems to help a little but she hates it  so it is a drag to give. but if it works that might be something to try.
