In 2 weeks I will be giving my 3 kittens over to the breeder, where I got my 2 cats from. As part of the deal when getting my 2 cats, I had to promise the first litter to the breeder. The whole story is in my intro post on another board.

Anyways, when we got our cats from this breeder, she only had 2 queens and one male. After getting our cats, their mother died. We knew the breeder was getting another female cat, but now we have found that she has many. She placed other cats with people and took their kittens, and then bred them.

So when our kittens reach 12 weeks, the breeder wants them in her home. I am worried about the 2 other queens with their litters, plus other cats. How will this be for 12 week old kittens coming into this situation without their own mother? The breeder thinks it will be easier on our queen if the kittens are removed all at once. I have mixed feelings on this. Also, although there was an agreement to give up the first litter, I still feel a responsibility to these kittens. I want to screen or at least meet the new owners.

And do any of you have advice as to what to expect from my cat when the kittens are removed?

Strange agreement.

It's always best to stagger the kittens leaving when they're adopted, it helps both mums milk drying up and keeps her from stressing that the kittens have suddenly vanished. Not sure how that would work with your situation though.

Do any of them have owners yet? 12 weeks is very late to be looking for owners.

The rules in Sweden say the kittens must be 12 weeks before leaving the mother. I know the breeder has some people lined up to see the kittens. The breeder has decided to have 2 of the kittens with the same arrangement I had with her. It seems to be a common agreement here with breeders. It does help with quality control. They can breed the cats with the good traits and prevent the bad traits from passing on.

We have the same 12 week rule, it just seems silly to move the kittens to a home when they're at the age of being adopted anyway so will do 2 moves in a short time

Not sure that it helps quality control, pet kittens go to pet homes, breeding quality kittens are kept or go to another registered breeder (or as a pet if the line/colour/sex isn't needed).
Taking litters back complicates it more than necessary. Sounds like someone with too many cats just farming them out. Would make more sense for the breeder with the queens to rehome all kittens herself rather than returning to another breeders home.

Strange agreement.
The agreement as such is common enough, in Sweden and surely also other places.  .The cat owner gets fine purebreds for a lower price or sometimes even for free. The breeder can breed on several queens without crowding, and all the queens can live a good family life as family pets. Everyone happy.

The cats owner can even sometimimes proceed to take one or two own litters in own name.

Although the arrangement with moving of the kittens is less common and sounds a little odd.

.Its surely inpractical, as you say.

It strikes me I, in the middle of the night, Im not sure how they usually do.

I think the breeder wants the queen to be at her home when preg and with kittens, together with her new owners.

And the owners shall not have any troubles with seeking suitable homes - this being the responsibility and the right of the breeder.

CartierCaviar. About your wish to screen the speculants:   I think you shall forget it, the breeder wants almost surely do it herself.   Unless she asks you to join, forget it.

About to know who got the kittens and where and how they live, yes, ask and talk with the breeder.  It is a normal and fair wish.  Im sure most of new owners will be happy to talk with you too.

Good luck!
