Hi everyone,

my cat just ate a very big rubber band, unfortunately. I feel so stupid for leaving it out. It's now 11:30 pm. Do i wait and see how he is tonight, and take him to emergency vet if needed? Or take to vet now? How long does it typically take them to show symptoms of distress? thanks for any advice!!!!

Thanks for the answers. Talked to the vet, and they said just watch him for a variety of changes, etc. He seems totally fine as of today, but will be watching him closely.

Does anyone know when he'll be 'in the clear'? As in, how long would it take for intestinal blockage to occur, and if it hasn't occurred at some point, we'll know he's ok...?

Thank you!

Just watch his stool. Sooner or later it will more than likely come out. When I had long hai Mia kept finding my hair ties, even when I hid them (she opens drawers and cabinets. Their were a few I saw pass through her system!  :)

I think you need to watch his stool carefully to see if and when it passes. Certainly if he becomes constipated, he needs a fast vet trip. I hope you will see that it passes so your mind will rest easy. Cats can get ahold of some strange things and eat them.

Thanks everyone--he seems totally fine, has been having regular stools, eating normally, etc. So, I believe it must have passed! Whew. I'll be more careful about what we leave on the floor from now on...:)
