Rescue kitty has worms. How long to keep him isolated from my house cat?

Last week a stray kitten showed up in my back yard, and he just wouldn't leave.  He was looking in through my kitchen window, meowing at me.  I couldn't find a mother or any other kittens, and it's starting to get cold outside, so I took him in.  I took him to the vet, he is 4 months old, and has roundworms and hookworms.  I'm keeping him in a spare bedroom, with his own litter and food.  I've been giving him meds for a week now, and I think he's lonely in there.  I have a 3 year old cat in the house already, and I'd like to start getting the cats used to each other, but I don't want to get my cat sick.  I go in a few times a day to play with the kitten, but I can't stay in there all day, or my 4 year old son will tear the house apart.  Can I bring the kitten out in the rest of the house, maybe in a carrier?  Any advice?

Welcome to the forum!!!! :) I would recommend keeping them separate until the kitten has a negative fecal test. You will need to deworm the kitten again in about two to three weeks. Scrub and dump the litter on the same day as the second deworming. Absolutely, you could do the carrier idea AND after the second deworming, you could allow the kitten to interact with your other cat. Make sure that your other cat does use the kitten's litter box until you get that negative stool sample. Much luck with your new baby. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
