Hi guys, meet Fluffy, my 1 year and 2 months mixed breed of ragdoll and ragamuffin.
Sadly, he just passed away yesterday night, 16th October. Even though he is now gone, I'd like to share with the world how adorable and lovely Fluffy is and even though his life was short, it was a good 1 year. He never failed to bring us joy with her weird way of sleeping and he never failed to scare the daylights out of us when he tried to jump up to the window ledge.

Just a little bit on how Fluffy died..

Fluffy was found lying motionless by our brother outside my bathroom. He was a healthy cat. He was well fed, active and showed no signs and symptoms of being ill. (Or maybe he was ill because I read that cats are really good at hiding) but I really doubt so because his pee and poo was normal. He didn't lose weight in fact he gained, he grew bigger. (I am from Singapore and currently in Australia pursuing my degree and my brothers sent me pictures of Fluffy and within a span of 3 months, he grew so big, maybe that's because of his breed) he was just one ball of fur. And just that unfortunate night, he was found dead..
Possible causes of sudden death started to come up to my mind.. my main and biggest suspicion was he had cardiomyopathy. I know it's a very general muscle disease but I really couldn't think of any possible cause. He wasn't poisoned because if so, he would be foaming. Or if he choked, he would be foaming too but no, nothing. He was calm and peaceful when he left.

If anyone, knows what could be the cause, kindly let me know or if the same thing happened to your cat, kindly discuss here. I just want to know the cause of his death for some consolation. We could have done an autopsy on Fluffy but that would mean cutting him up and we couldn't bear to do that.

I'd like to share this tribute video my brother made. I couldn't stop crying and feel sad that I wasn't there with him during his last moments. I cannot imagine how he felt. Must have been very lonely..

Please meet Fluffy <3

Very sorry for your sudden lose, but sadly without an autopsy the cause of death will remain a mystery though HCM is possible.

Have you let the people you brought him from know?

Having lost a cat the same way I know how terribly painful losing your little Fluffy so suddenly must be for you and my heart goes out to you.

(We had a necropsy done.)

My condolences. He was a beautiful little furball, with such a sweet face. Cardiomyopathy is certainly a possibility, since he went so unexpectedly. RIP, Fluffy.

Hi there, Thank you so much for your consolation. Well, I'd think it's HCM too. I heard HCM is common among ragdolls but Fluffy was a mixture of ragdoll and ragamuffin.

I've contacted the breeder and was told that Fluffy's parents are healthy so I'm not too sure but then again, I'm not sure if I should believe what he said because before I bought Fluffy, he said he'd clean his ears and that Fluffy is healthy but after that when I cleaned Fluffy's ears it was full of dirt and it was those hard solid dirt stuck in his ears and he had rashes, hard bulging out rash and we brought him to the vet and was told he had mites and I'm like.. okay..

And now, this happened. I just don't trust non-registered breeders anymore. It's crazy and I bought them from Singapore because I come from Singapore but currently residing in Australia for my studies. I know there are a lot of non-registered breeders in Singapore but I wouldn't know I'd be one of them who'd get such dishonesty.

Totally disheartened.

Hi Violet, that was the website I read up about and that was how I came up with the conclusion that Fluffy died due to HCM. Thank you so much for your condolences, it is really painful and until now, I still cry every night because I am so far away from home. Sorry, but may I ask, did your cat die of HCM?

Hi Jcat,

Thank you so much, he was a really beautiful cat. The moment i saw him, I fell in love. It was love at first sight. It's such a pity that his life with us was so short. I thought I could create much more better memories for him, but oh well.. I was looking forward to go back home in Feb because I'm here in Australia for my studies and I've missed him so much I couldn't wait to go home and hug him and now all my hopes are crushed. ):

Hi Jaryne!

Yes, our baby died of HCM. To be sure there would be no unanswered questions left we followed the advice of the vet on call at the hospital we normally go to with our babies when we had to call at 4 AM on that horrible morning and we had the necropsy done at Tufts. )

Only eight weeks before he died he had a dental and came through the anesthesia, etc, with absolutely no problems. He had no symptoms of heart disease, no murmur, no irregular heart beat, nothing a regular exam could have picked up on. I was told that only an ultrasound could have found the heart disease sooner.

His sudden, totally unexpected death was a tremendous, incredibly painful shock to our family. I guess that's why I so much appreciate the information Dr. Mike Richards's shares on his web site. For example, in his answer to Sophia, he writes:

I read a post on the Veterinary Information Network by Dr. Kittleson, who is a well known authority on cardiomyopathy about a sudden death in a cat that he had done an ultrasound exam on one month previously that did not show cardiomyopathy. On the post-mortem exam it was possible to diagnose the condition, though.
With our baby the necropsy results showed that he had had HCM for a very long time.

I can't tell you how sorry I am that you have to go through this incredibly painful experience. I can only offer you heartfelt wishes for comfort from the happy memories you have with your baby and the knowledge that when they go this way they don't suffer. Death is so quick they don't have time to realize what is happening to them.

I'm crying with you,  Please feel the warm, comforting hug I'm sending you.

Hi Violet,

I am so sorry to hear that as well. It is really a tremendous shock when animals die of HCM because it is so sudden that no one would ever expect. Even if a check has been done, like what you have said, it would not show up unless an ultra scan has been done. I really like Dr. Richard's posts as well at least I found it pretty comforting though.

My friends all told me this, do not mourn and grief over their death, instead, smile and be happy that you have created a wonderful memory of him and he will stay in your heart forever. Let's remember that our babies have gone to Rainbow Bridge.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hugs, my heart goes all out to you and your family <3

I am so sorry about Fluffy. He was much too young. Things like this just break my heart -- please know that all of us who have loved and lost kitties can empathize with you. The difference is that he was so young. It's heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet at any age, but when they're older at least you know they've had ful lives. Fluffy was just too young.

Hi kookcats, thank you for your consolation. He is just too young, I wished I had more time with him. Honestly, I only had 6-8 months with him because we got him in October and by end June, I had to leave home to Australia for my education. It's just very heart breaking that this happened ):
oh my, i'm so sorry for your little one's loss. i cried watching your video. he was precious. i'm sorry...

I'm so sorry for your loss of Fluffy. That video was so bittersweet but it's lovely that you have videos of him
Aw, thank you so much. It was indeed bittersweet, bitter that he is no longer there, sweet that I had that kind of memory of him. I really miss him ):
