My cats are all outdoor cats and one of them was hit by a car recently. He had to have a wire put in his jaw for some fractures and a concussion, He came home we gave him his oral medicine for the first 5 days till it was out after which we got him to start eating with cut up bits of fresh cooked turkey. After the turkey he started eating his dry food again which is all he will eat. Now about another 1-2 weeks he started trying to go outside but we've decided to keep him indoors now. Around the same time we didn't let him out he also stopped eating again and developed a smell from his mouth, but he would still sniff the food as if he wanted to eat so we brought him to the vet who gave him a minor inspection and an antibiotic shot in his back. now the morning after the shot he has had a small cough still smelling all his favorites but not eating anything.few notes i have tried various brands of baby food wiping food on his paws and chin soft bites wet foods pates mixed with water. but even before all this he only ever ate meow mix original and would starve himself if we ever ran out im worried does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation that might be able to help my kitty?

I wouldn't let him go too long without eating. It's very important that you feed him with a syringe until he starts eating again on his own. It sounds like he wants to, so that is a good sign. It sounds like he is not eating because he has an infection in his mouth that hurts (the bad smell). I would talk to the vet again. One shot might not have been enough to clear the infection. Maybe the vet could give him something for pain if he needs it. Also, if he has a cough or uri that means he might not be smelling the food to well and that can affect appetite. He might need to be treated for that too. I hope your little sweetie feels better soon.

He has had a hard time smelling since his accident due to some scabbing over his left nostril and he was always a very light eater even worrisome sometimes before his accident. I have a syringe from his oral meds that i use to give him milk for now but i would like to see him eating again. The cough is unusual too as he has fine fur never sheds or has hairballs this was the first time hes ever coughed before. Another visit to the vet seems like the best idea.
