Since both the cats have ear mites and fleas the vet gave them advantage-multi. She told me to use that for a few months to kill off all the mites and fleas then if I wanted I could switch to something cheaper that just does fleas.

But I was reading the Advantage-multi pamphlet and it says it protects them from fleas, ear mites, Heartworms, Roundworms, Hookworms and some larval stages of worms. It is going to cost me about $88.00 for six which would last for three months (2 cats)

The other stuff only does fleas but is cheaper and she says since they are indoor they should be okay. I'm a bit torn any advice would be welcome.

Sorry what are you torn about?  Spending the money on the multi for 3 months, or switching from it after 3 months?

Switching after three months.  The other stuff does not protect against all the worms, mites and stuff just fleas. At the same time I don't want to  unnecessarily medicate them if they don't need it. But what if a person with an outdoor cat comes over and I don't know they have an outdoor cat. Can they give my cats worms or mites? My cats will never be outside though because where we live we have feral cats, possums, racoons, water moccasins and the occasional bear or wild cat it is just not safe.

Do you mean K9 Advantix? If so, NO! Advantix is ONLY for dogs and is very toxic to cats. There have even been cases of a cat dying after the dog in the family had an application of Advantix.

If you mean Advantage II, it's not the same as Multi, because it only kills fleas. But it is safe.

I think advantage-9 and ll might be the same thing?

I'm trying to google different ones because I am not sure about giving up the worm protection, mite and fleas for just fleas not to mention switching up medications on the all of a sudden.

Yeah, that's regular Advantage. I never really noticed the 9 there :tongue2:. You might want to contact the seller, though, because Bayer switched to making Advantage II. . .a couple years ago? I think. So if it's not Advantage II it's probably old product. They say it's still good even if it's old but it's up to you.

It's fine to switch products every month. Some vets recommend doing that, in fact, to keep the fleas from becoming immune. You could give Advantage Multi every 2 or 3 months and just do regular Advantage for the other months. That way they'd be de-wormed regularly but not every month (which I think is a bit excessive, especially for indoor cats).

How often should indoor cats be wormed? (I was just using that link for the picture) I will just buy it from the vet I am wary of buying meds online. Even kitty meds.

If you buy the meds from a certified pet pharmacy (the ones I know of are 1-800-Pet Meds and Drs Foster & Smith), it's just as safe as buying from your vet. But it's always nice to support your local vet! :D

I don't know how often is really "recommended" for de-worming indoor cats, but I usually go with every 3-6 months.
