Merrick - l bought a couple of flavours because of the carb-chart. They will eat the Cowboy Cookout, so l'll continue with it, but they won't touch the Turducken. (My dog eats mostly Merricks).

Natures Variety Instinct - l made a thread about this stuff, for some reason it doesNOT agree with my cats. l returned the 10 cans l had bought.

Wellness Grain Free - that's a staple, they love it, and l like it being in the rotation because it's available in a big can, so more cost-effective.

Evo - turkey and chicken cat & kitten - they will eat it, but it isn't their favourite. l like giving them it because it seems like an excellent food (carrageenan is its downside). Also comes in a big can.

The other two on the list l haven't tried. l think it was you that mentioned Tiki? While l'm waiting for the chicken flavours to become available, l give them the sardine and mackerel once a week or so.

I tried the Addiction rabbit and my cat loved it. I would only be used in rotation as the price is fairly outrageous (2.29 for 5.5oz can). I've tried Wellness and he likes the chicken formula (just seems to have a bit too much fruit and veggies). Evo wasn't his favourite but I'm going to try again. Today I tried the Holistic Select lamb and chicken and he didn't seem too thrilled.
I haven't tried the Natures Variety yet but I am concerned about the clay in it...? I also haven't tried the Merrick food either. We'll see how it goes!
I looked into Tiki cat and you were right- there are only fish formulas right now. Where did you hear that it will be in Canada in December? Do you have a link or was this a rumour? I would LOVE to have Tiki cat in my rotation!
I'm just wondering which foods are the lowest in carbohydrates? Anyone know?

About the Tiki: after l saw the Protein, Fat, Carbs, Phos. chart, l really wanted to try the chicken Tikis too, so l wrote to the company. The Canadian distributor wrote back - this is cut and pasted from his email: The following new flavours are on order from Thailand and we hope to have  them in the country and available to stores by December 2012. Puka Puka Luau - Chicken in Chicken Consommé Napili Luau - Salmon and Chicken in Chicken Consommé Koolina Luau - Chicken with Egg in Chicken Consommé

Here's the chart for the carbs - http://www.catinfo.org/docs/Food Chart Public 9-22-12.pdf

The Merrick's look good on this chart, but their labels make them look like they would be loaded with carbs. lt's the opposite for Weruva.

Wellness is a little lower in protein than some, but not bad in a rotation l guess.

I'm really glad to hear about Tiki cat! It looks like an ideal food. I also hope Bo likes the Merrick... I think I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks you for the information Andrya!

We have only tried two of those...

Wellness chicken - good ingredients and all of my Kitties like it. Too pricey for daily use for us however.

Evo Turkey & Chicken Cat & Kitten - Two of my boys would not eat this on multiple attempts (the other 3 liked it "OK")

However, they all love the EVO 95% Chicken and Turkey... go figure.

Additionally, not on your list, but they like By Nature 95% varieties as well,

and they are priced similarly (per oz) to the EVO at PFD.

Are you making progress on the transition to wet food?

He's taken to wet very well. He is a grazer however and the food is left out for a few hours at a time although he does eventually eat it all. I think it will take a bit of time for him to adjust from grazing all day on kibble to set meals 3 times a day.
He's not a huge fan of Evo and I am a bit scared of it as well because of the carrageenan content... but if its not one things, it's another... *sigh almost all wet foods have that ingredient in it.

I found the EXACT same thing with my cats!!! When I fed EVO canned, they completely refused the Turkey and Chicken time after time. BUT loved the EVO Chicken and turkey. Isn't that odd??? I can't imagine with the big difference is :lol3:

My cats LOVE Tiki Succulent shredded chicken. OMG they go nuts for it and I still offer it for a special treat on some days. There is also Wellness Core. They have come out with many new proteins recently. Petco carries the whole line of Wellness Core canned.

I can't wait until the chicken formulas are in Canada! Cross your fingers that Bo loves it because I would love to make it a staple.

Glad to hear that he is doing better...

I've been going through the same thing with my ten y/o, Jerry.

I usually end up letting him lick it off of my finger, otherwise he will walk away and let the other kitties eat it.

I know what you mean about the carrageenan. With my 5 Kitties, plus 3 Fosters and the Ferals,

I can't afford most of the canned foods that do not have it.

I know, isn't that strange? The Merrick formulas seem to be loaded with fruits and veggies, but are low in carbs, the Weruva, no fruits and veggies, but extremely high in carbs. I only feed Jennie the Weruva once in a great while since I saw that list. But the Merricks all have carageenan, so as they get used up I will not be getting more. Jennie has done well on the Merrick Before Grain, and I do have a few of the other line left, too, but Mazy and Queen Eva cannot tolerate carrageenan and I don't want Jennie having it any more, either.

The By Nature 95 % also has carrageenan, but the By Nature Organic does not. While the website does list carrageenan in the ingredients of the BN organinc, carrageenan is NOT listed on the actual can labels. I have been over this several times with the makers of By Nature and have been told repeatedly that the web site is in error and the can labels are correct. The BN organic is only 1% carbs, and the only "bad" ingredients really are pea flour and menadione sodium bisulfate.

By Nature has some new, carrageenan free formulas too, though some of them seem kind of skimpy on the protein

I didn't know Tiki Cat had a non fish formula. I'll have to look into that. Is it carrageenan free and menadione free?

Tiki Cat ingredients in one of the formulas-- http://www.petropics.com/PukaPuka.htm
Thanks, I was just reading it. It does sound like an excellent food, nothing in it to complain about but the sunflower seed, but......

Then I went to Amazon, the first place I always go to check prices. Holy moly, ounce for ounce, that food cost more than Rad Cat frozen Raw! :lol3: (not figuring in any shipping or travel charges to get the Rad Cat, which is what I mean by ounce for ounce)

The price for an 8 pack of 6 ounce cans on Amazon is 61 cents an ounce.

I pay 49 cents an ounce for Rad cat. Of course I have to add in sales tax and the gas for traveling almost 200 miles round trip to get it, which does push the cost up closer to the Tiki, which I could get tax and shipping free from Amazon. Still though...wow.

I'll have to have a look at the other on line stores I buy cat food from and compare.....

(edit) after shopping around I managed to find it for quite a lot less, with a half price shipping promotion and no sales tax. I ordered two (8 can) cases and paid 40 cents an ounce (including the shipping fee). Sorry for the slight hi-jack of your thread but I am excited about finding another occasional (very occasional at that price, lol) canned food to fit in the rotation. Anything that is very different from the other foods I feed, in an acceptable way of course, is a good thing.

Fed Bo a can of Merricks (Turducken) and WOW! He has never been so thrilled to eat before... he cleaned the plate! I'm so excited I found a food he loves. It will be a big part of his rotation! Thanks again for all of your help!

I'm so glad that Tiki Cat will be bringing in their chicken only recipes to Canada very soon. I just started to introduce my three-month old Bella to Hookena Luau Tuna & Chicken in Chicken Consomme as an occasional alternative to Wellness Kitten. I just worry about the metals and other things in the tuna. So I'm looking forward to the chicken only recipes. I also feed Weruva chicken varieties and Wellness grain-free Healthy Indulgence pouches (chicken and turkey). Thank you for reading.
