I took Loki and Smokey to the vet and got Smokey his booster. Both kitties got Advantage-multi because they had ear mites. They are otherwise healthy.

BUT

Loki is partially blind /has obstructed vision in his left eye. The vet said as small kitten he must have had an ulcer in his eye that never got treated so it left a scar on his eye. I asked about drops, medication or surgery or something to fix it but she said there is nothing we can do . He will be fine and it is not causing him any pain but it makes me sad.

I wouldn't worry too much about Loki. When I got my first cat Memphis a couple years ago, he came home from the shelter with an ulcer on his eye. He could only partially open the eye, and I could actually see what looked like a tear in his cornea. He did get drops in time, but even when it was all healed up there was still a scar there. The vet said it's like when we have a hair or one of those floaties in our eyes, and he'd eventually learn to look around it and not even notice it anymore. Cats are very adaptable creatures, and they always find a way to have happy lives with disabilities that we would find unbearable. I know a couple members on this site have cats who have had entire eyes removed, and I haven't heard of many problems arising. Even completely blind cats seem to manage just fine.

My Silly is one who had an eye removed.  The main problem she has with it gone is me making pirate noises at her. Arrrrgh, matey.  She plays and play attacks the other cats, three of which are larger than her and jumps up on things, but takes a better look before she does.  Her eye was taken out in May of this year.

Aw, of course it makes you sad. :heart2: But as the others have said - it doesn't make HIM sad! Our little Flowerbelle was so bad off when she was rescued, we couldn't save her eye. Like Catspaw66's Silly, she had to have her eye removed. But she never let it slow her down! :D

That is sad.  Poor Loki, but of all the senses that a cat can have comprimised, I believe that sight is the one they can adapt to having a deficit the most. My cat, Kattie had a bad reaction to Baytril a few years ago. Her pupils became very dilated and didn't constrict. Come to find out that this is one of the more rare side effects of the drug. She had comprimised vision that has gradually gotten worse as she has gotten older. At her last vet visit, the doc said that more than likely, she has very little vision left. She can probably see shadows and blobs from far away as I can wave my hand to her across the room and she will come. Up close i can drop a cotton ball on her face and she doesn't really have a reflex. I can tell she has issues with her sight as she is a little more cautious and will sometimes trip on a toy in the middle of the living room, but she overall gets around very well. She jumps on her cat tree, she jumps from the bed to the window perch about 3 feet away, she hangs out on my art table and plays with toys. I do have to be careful with my other cat and her as he is young and likes to sneak up on  her. This caused her to refuse to eat in the spot she used to eat in as he pounced on her. She now eats on the cat tree where she feels safe. Oscar, my other cat also wears a bell so he can no longer sneak up on her. Overall, I think they compensate rather well to vision loss and aren't like people and dwell on it it.  I have to admit I was a little sad when I found out just how bad Katties sight was, but she is still loveable and happy so we accomadate and help her out to live a normal happy life as much as she can.

Yes it is a sad thing that happened to Loki.  But Loki has a great pet parent to love and be spoiled by.  All animals have a remarkable ability to overcome disabilities such as Loki's.  I wouldn't dwell on it too much if you can help it.  Loki will be just fine
