Hello . This is my new cat Zulu . My dad found her wandering around a campground for about 3 months so he decided to bring her home . Could anyone tell me what kind of cat she is ? just curious .

Shes been living in our large garage since we have not gotten close enough to get her into the house . When she first got here she hid from everything and hissed if you got too close . In the past few weeks she has started to warm up to both me and my dad but not by much . She doesn't hid and mostly likes running around and playing with everything . But she still won't let anyone really pet her . Ive been able to scratch her head a few times which she really enjoyed , but she still acts scared most of the time if I try . Is there anything I can do to make her feel comfortable enough around me so that I can pet her and maybe even pick her up so she can come in the house ? or would she be better off in the garage since she already seems really happy there . she has lots of blankets and toys around the garage but I just want to make her feel as comfortable as possible here .

Without papers, she is just a Domestic Short Hair, albeit a beautiful, sleek looking lady.  Welcome to TCS and thank you for the pictures.  Just be yourself around her and don't try to rush her into being an indoor cat.  It may take weeks or months before she is comfortable enough with you to come indoors.

Welcome to TCS!! And you have a lovely, black domestic short hair. What a beauty. She has the most adorable face. I think you are doing great so far with her. If you were to bring her inside, she would need a small room and be confined until she is more trusting of you and your dad. She sounds like she is coming along quite well though in the garage. It will take much time and patience on your part. I would suggest spending loads of time in the garage with her. Pick up some of those wand kitty toys as I bet she will enjoy those sessions with you. Do not leave the wand toys loose in the garage. She would likely chew and eat the string!!! Keep toys like that away and only take them out under your supervision. Does she have a litter pan in the garage? Make sure it is an large open style pan. Soon she will need to be spayed as well. Has she been to the vet yet? Good idea to get that all set up. Good luck with your little black beauty, Zulu. :kitty2:

Congrats on the new kitty. She is lovely
. If I were you, I would definitely let her make all of the moves. We had luck with sitting on the opposite side of the room and just reading out loud in a very calm, quiet voice. Within a day, the stray cat stopped hiding whenever we came out and within a week he would take treats from our hand. Just give her time and she will surely come around. The fact that she comes anywhere near you would seem that she has had human contact in the past. "Dropping" a few yummy bits of food every now and then may help her warm up.

Also, I found that limiting eye contact helps at first. When you do make eye contact, soft blinking "kissy eyes" will show her that you mean no harm. Best of luck!!
