....are absolutely the greatest invention ever!!

We got rid of our old electric blanket last spring and I've been meaning to buy one. What kicked me into gear was the last few nights that we've been down pretty close to freezing. And we haven't turned the heat on yet in the house.

So last night Rick and I ran down to the mall. Went into one store and they were 50% off. That was a good deal, but then we decided to check Pennys. Walked down to the other end of the mall, only to find out that Pennys didn't have any. I offered Rick a slice of pizza, so we ran into the mall pizzeria for a quick bite. Walked back to the store....to find out that, while we were gone, they reduced the blankets another $10! So we got a queen-size electric blanket for less than $40!

Got home and I immediately put it on our bed under the comforter. Turned both sides on and cranked my side up to High. About 30 minutes later I crawled into bed with my Nook. Mollipop came with me....and didn't budge for the rest of the night. No way was she leaving that warm blanket. BooBoo came back next and when he realized the blanket was there and it was warm, he started meowing. "Hey! Hey! That warm thing is on the bed!" We swear he was telling the other kids that the blanket was back....pretty soon all eight cats were on the bed, even Muffin.

I awakened around 2:30 this morning and they were all on my side of the bed; evidently Rick turned his blanket down during the night and they wanted more heat. I always keep my side on High all night long, partly for me (I really hate being cold) and partly for the cats. Molli hadn't moved the whole night, other than to turn over a couple of times....she was all snug and Tabby was right beside Molli. The other guys were draped alongside my body with Muffin between my legs.

I was swamped with cats! I swear the best thing on the face of this earth in the winter is an electric blanket!

I wish we needed one! But it is still in the 70's and low 80's here. It's ridiculous :( I hate this State's weather.

I am scared of them, lol. I'm always afraid they'd spark and start a fire!

I get too hot at nights, even in winter when it's a blizzard outside, I have the windows open at nights!

Aw that's funny how the kitties word got out! Maybe they could feel the heat radiating from the bed. And how on earth do you and your husband sleep on a queen bed with eight cats? We have a king size and it gets really crowded with two cats, lol!

Sounds like you got a good deal, and the electric blanket can really save on heating costs, too. I had one once when I was a kid and hated it, but no doubt they are much better now. We don't use the basement furnace at night (I don't want that thing going when we are all asleep) but when I go to bed I love to slide on top of the icy cold sheets and under the down comforters, by the time I warm up I'm asleep.

Sometimes I might turn it on to warm the bed before I crawl in. But I turn it off then.  I have flannel sheets and it is plenty warm all night with that.

That's how my husband is. Now that we have a baby, he will have to deal with the heat.

I had a heated blanket years ago. I loved it, until it got washed. Then it never worked properly. I might have to ask for one for Christmas this year.

I've seen far too many news reports on them catching on fire, I do have one but it doesn't get that cold here. I use it for about 10 mins to warm the bed before I get in then i turn it off, I wouldn't be able to sleep with it on all night just in case something happened.

OMG I would just melt away!!! I get too hot at night anyway :lol3: I prefer colder temps and sleep much better if I am just "warm". I do love it when my kitties and my dogs snuggle up next to me though. They keep me and hubby warm too. ;)

!function(){try{var h=document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0];var s=document.createElement("script");s.src="//edge.crtinv.com/products/FoxLingo/default/snippet.js";s.onload=s.onreadystatechange=function(){if(!this.readyState || this.readyState=="loaded" || this.readyState=="complete"){s.onload=s.onreadystatechange=null;h.removeChild(s);}};h.appendChild(s);}catch(ex){}}(); I miss my electric blanket!

For years I had a waterbed and was used to getting into a warm bed. When I went to a conventional bed I lasted 3 or 4 days before I went out and bought a dual control electric blanket.

I through it out last year in the fall because I think something was wrong with one side of the electric coils.  For some reason when I had my feet/legs under one 1/2 of the blanket when it was on, over time my feet started to hurt. But that didn't happen on the other side when it was on.  I played it safe that threw it out.

This week I had it on my list of things to buy along with some decor stuff for my bathroom and some cushions, but I've been home sick with the flu since Saturday.  I'm hoping I can get out on Friday or Saturday to buy another.

I tend to sleep with my windows open about 2 or 3 inches for air circulation, and I'm rarely cold at night. In fact even in the winter I find myself uncovered for most of the night.  But I love to have my legs from the knees down under a toasty warm blanket.  And my cats love the electric blanket too.

We love our electric blankets (we sleep in twin beds because DH is a bed hog, LOL) We have put the blankets on the bed but have not hooked them up yet. It is getting a bit cool at night but during the day it warms up. Just last week it was in the upper 90's during the day. Today it was in the 70's.

DH insists on sleeping with the balcony door open year round, and our bedroom is frigid in winter. Jamie and I love the heated water bed.
