Four days ago a deceased neighbor's cat (Gabby) had four kittens.  I've been watching out for the cat and kittens.  Yesterday I was checking on the four kittens, and two hours later there were five kittens. It is smaller than the rest and the others were pushing it aside, but Mom kept nursing it.  I have known of cats having kittens days apart, but it was still shocking.  I kept recounting and recounting.  Finally, I went and asked a second neighbor how many kittens there had been.  She and her daughter told me "Four" also.   It was funny to explain to the lady who was on her way to pick up the Mom and her babies, that instead of four kittens, there was now five.  This lady had heard of Gabby's plight of her owner dying and was willing to foster them until new homes can be found for them all.  What a blessing!

Aw that is a blessing!  And what a shock!

My step-dad had 2 cats give birth within days of each other before he met my Mom.  The one cat wasn't very interested in her babies and the other would move her kittens in with her litter.  My Step-dad said he'd have to get the cat and her kittens and "plug them in."

So sorry to hear about your neighbour, wonderful that someone will foster the mum and kittens. Four days apart is on the longer side, often it's 24-48 hours.

Well, here is a revision to the original post.  I had been hearing kitten mews for so much that the night before last, as I was walking home, I heard a kitten, but couldn't find it.  Yesterday afternoon, it just kept bugging me.  I went back over to Gabby's house and looked around for another kitten.  Another neighbor came over to help me search.  We couldn't find one.  Then I remember that a year ago, Jack-Gabby's deceased owner, lived in the house next to where he died.  I went into that back yard and looked all over.  I kept praying that I would find it.  I saw a large tangle of vines...over 6' by 6'.  I thought that is where I would put my kittens...I looked in there, and (don't worry it turns out OK)  a kitten stretched out with it's mouth open and flies on it.  I turned away, and when I turned back, I saw the tongue move.  I picked it up, hurried to my house, yelled to the neighbor to call a vet for advice.  I only had regular milk, but I gave a few drops to the kitten....enough to wet its mouth.  It wasn't moving or making a sound.  After about five minutes it made the softest mew and began to move its front paw a bit.  As soon as it was responding more, I walked back over to the neighbor and got the vet's advice.  He said to go to a pet store and get some cat milk.  I drove with it in my hand, clutched to my chest.  At stop lights I'd give it another drop of milk.  I walked into the pet store and said, "I have an emergency here.  I found her in the bushes, please take me to what I need."  The man at Pet Supermarket, got the items, made up the bottle for me, and another employee helped me feed her.  Her eyes were open, so we determined that she wasn't a new born.  Long story short....we think that Gabby had part of her litter at one house and kept part of her litter at the old house, waiting for her "Jack" to come back to one of the locations.  I called the new foster Mom (Vicky) of Gabby (She and her five babies are doing well).  I explained that the kitten was too weak to compete for Gabby's milk, so another foster Mom was called.  By the time I drove "Kiwi" (as my neighbor's six year old daughter named it) to the new foster Mom (Janet), she was responsive to my mews and would cry back.  Kiwi would knead her front paws as she fed.  Janet was going to tube feed it, and when it is healthy enough, Kiwi will be reunited with her Mom and the rest of the siblings.  So in reality, we found out that Gabby didn't have two labors, she was just keeping part of the litter in one place and part in another....waiting for Jack.  Soon Gabby and ALL her six kittens will be back together.  What a great ending to a possibly tragic story.  Thank you God :)
