So this summer a feral cat had five kittens under my deck.
For a month we tried to get the kittens comfortable and fed them, but one night Moma Cat took the kittens away. About two weeks later three kittens returned, but no Moma or sign of the other two.
Long story short-ened, it ended up only two kittens survived and lived on their own. I spent many MANY hours every day with these two, and they are both on their way to regular tamed kittens.
They are in my basement, and they come when I call, they are comfortable with the idea of food (ie they don't feel it necessary to eat ten helpings at once, they realize it is not going anywhere), they use a litter box, they play and purr and they seem to be adjusting really well.
One is very affectionate and jealous, he's bossy and the cutest thing ever.
The other is still very skittish, and timid. When she returned after the initial take-off with Moma, she had a bad injury under her neck. She will come out when you call, she does SOMETIMES want pets, and will play.
Sometimes we pick her up and wait until she either starts to purr, or until she falls asleep to remind her she's safe with us. She has never tried to attack, and never once put out her claws with anyone.
Is there any advice anyone has? I am really glad we decided to keep them, I just want to be sure my little girl is as comfortable as my guy, I don't want her to be afraid.
