A few days ago I rescued a four or five week old kitten from a home where the mother had abandoned her kittens. When we brought her home she seemed healthy except she was covered in fleas. We got her home and warmed her and gave her a bath in blue dawn soap and combed/ tweezed away every last one. I started feeding her Hartz Milk Replacement, then the next day started mixing it with small amounts of plain beef baby food and some water. She wasn't eating much at first, and favored smaller but more frequent feelings. I had some success with having her pick at some dry food but mainly stuck to the milk/baby food. I had purchased the Gerber brand chicken baby food as well that had corn starch and don't notice the difference until later. I believe that's when the diarrhea started. Since then it seems like she can't get enough food! She crawls up my chest and sucks on my lip when she's hungry and will claw and suck on me until the bottle is in her mouth. i have kind of been feeding her until she turns away and falls asleep because her vet appt wasn't until tonight. i'm hoping the vet can give me some clue as to how much to feed her and so on, but it is just a basic exam because I can't afford fecal tests and so on right now. i should also mention, she has been using the litter box on her own since the second day I got her. The previous home had not attempted to litter train her yet, but she picked it up her first try. Her first several stools were fine but for the past two days they have been larger in volume, mustard colored and almost like mealy toothpaste. Since the diarrhea began I have stopped feeding the baby food and mixed 1 part milk replacement with 1 part water. I'm assuming she's either being over fed or has worms, or maybe both? Someone help! I need some reassurance.

Offer her kitten kibble. If you can get your hands on Royal Canin Baby Kitten kibble..it's extra tiny. Sounds like she's old enough to try. There is also good quality wet kitten food. Stick to chicken flavour.

She will need to be treated for fleas, worms and tapeworms. Your vet should be able to help you with those.

Use a kitchen scale and weigh her every day. If she loses weight...more than one day, she needs to go back to vet.

She could also have coccydia which if left untreated will kill her. The vet should take a stool sample. Take one when you go. She will needs medication for this. Coccydia stool is usually, green, yellow, pale brown to greyish in colour.

Hope that helps and good luck :)

We just got her home from the vet. He said she's healthy BUT like most kittens has worms. She's too small to treat for them yet so I'm supposed to just go on like I have been, and introduce "mush" into her diet lol. Thanks for your response!
