Sneezing and occasional cough?

Hi all,

A few weeks ago, I adopted two kittens around 4 months old. I noticed they would sneeze a little, but was told this was likely due to investigating their new home and sniffing around. It's been a few weeks, and the sneezing persists, especially with one kitten in particular. This kitten will also cough once or twice every once in a while, maybe a few times a day. They are both going to the vet on the 16th already to get a shot/check up, but do you think I should insist they be seen sooner? Their appetites are still really good, they are playful and active, and there hasn't been any discharge from their eyes or nose, except when the the one sneezes, and then sometimes there will be some discharge as he sneezes.

I w somould suggest going now as theycould have colds. My cat Mia, came home to me at 7 weeks old on an antibiotic because she had some sneezing andeye discharge. It wasnt to bad but they said it would get worse if she didnt take it. It could lead to secondary infections if not treated.

This is common in newly adopted kittens/cats from shelters as it spreads quickly. Don't freak out though. It should be easily treatable with antibiotics!  :)

Thanks, ilovemia.

I called the clinic and left a message on the veterinarian's voicemail. The coughing just started the last few days, mostly they've just been sneezing, and it's really only been the one kitten. I'm hoping that the vet will have me bring them in sometime today or early tomorrow.

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but how and how often would these antibiotics be administered? I've never had to give a cat medicine before

I gave Mia her liquid antibiotic one time daily. She didnt like it and I had to hold her by the skin on her neck and pull her head back to do it. Then aim near the back of her throat. It was the only way I could get her to open her mouth and swallow too. She and Mac had giardia this last month and I had to do it then too. I prefer a liquid med than a pill as I have had much better luck with it.

The vet's office hasn't called me back yet...I left a message about 6 hours ago. I'm hoping that they heard my message and don't think it is serious enough to bring them in earlier than scheduled and not that they are just blowing me off or haven't even listened to it.

I've been taking them into the bathroom with me when I shower because I read that the steam can be soothing for them. I've also been reading some things sites like this that say that colds usually will clear up on their own and that I should really only be concerned if they stop eating or if they get diarrhea. I'm not sure that's the way to go, but it did help me calm down a little bit in case the vet doesn't call me back or says to just bring them in as scheduled next Tuesday.

Ring the vet when there should be someone there - don't rely on their answerphone.

I did call when there should be someone there. Their recording says if no one is available to take my call, it goes to their voicemail. I called multiple times before leaving a message.

MY cat has herpes , she sneezes some, her eye has a discharge and now she coughs, I though that was a hair ball....wonder if it's something else ? She's been to the VET several times, she's on Lysine.
